hi

i have recently just set up my presonus firestudio project on my mac os x

everything works fine for recording. im trying to change the macs output device to the presonus (so i can play mp3 etc...) i havent got any monitors attached at this stage so wouldnt get any sound anyways, but when i change it it automatically sets back to the default mac in built speakers after i leave the control panel.

cant seem to figure this one out, any ideas?

cheers

I'm not too familiar with Macs but if this were a windows box/lappy I'd jump into the bios and disable the onboard sound device.

This is why I have a mixer. Even if I did not mix out of the box I would still have a small format mixer. Hook up your monitors to the mixers control room outs. This way you could monitor your daw on one stereo channel and listen to Itunes from your computers soundcard output to another stereo channel .

I have a problem with setting my RME interface for the playback in windows. I accepts the selection, but the audio is garbage.

It should work. I've used Presonus interface (Inspire 1394) and other firewire interfaces with Tiger and Leopard, and the system automatically changed the output to the interface most of the time, and in certain cases (sequences of plugging in / turning on /off stuff), I had to manually do it like you said, but the choice always stuck.

What version of OS X do you have? When you select the Presonus, do you hear sound through it at that point, and then it stops working when you click away?
