Audio Output What's Good To Use?

I've been reading a lot, and will prob add some good monitor speakers to my home studio, but wanting to know what should my sound output go into , which in turn goes out to the monitor speakers? Currently I'm using an basic typical home stereo receiver to listen to the output. Thanks.
