Audio Interface Advice

I have been reading forums, etc. in trying to determine which audio interface to purchase. I have a PC with XP SP2 and firewire port. PC has plenty of memory and power. Even though the PC will be mainly used for my music studio I will likely browse the internet for forums, hardware information, etc., etc. - so I would like to maintain SP2 for security purposes. That being said - any advice on a PC firewire interface (probably 8 I/O is good) that plays nice with PC and XP SP2? I have read of many user problems - crashes, uninstalling SP2, etc. with various interfaces. Any advice would certainly be appreciated.

there's a mod at rme and other places to get sp2 fw working ok, its not too tricky
