Ok, so, I am using Power Sound Editor Free 6.3.1 which, when placing frequency filters (high pass, low pass and notch) asks me what steepness I would like to place the filters at. What does this mean? Also, does anyone know the standard width of notch filters? I am editing for a class project and my professor has no idea what I am referring to. Thanks for the help!

Suggest you read the hi/lo pass thread if you haven't always and that will explain what they are...

They tend to shelve off at an angle (if you're looking at it graphically) rather than a complete shut down of everything above/below a certain frequency (or at least the ones on my machine do...)

In terms of notch filters, if you're using a hardware parametric - the notchy goodness is controlled by the Q setting, so you increase or decrease the Q to widen/narrow (could the other way round, I don't have one at hand) the range of the "notch" - if you're using a software parametric, then I believe (I don't have one, myself) you can often narrow the notch to whatever you damn well feel is necessary and will get the job done...

Clear as?
