i am problably going to purchase a soundblaster audigy LS sound card, and i have heard good and bad things. first off, it has digital jacks, and i'm not sure what they are. like digi in and out jacks. also, it doesn't support soundfonts. i don't know what they are and how they work, so how important is it. the good parts are that hopefully the synth won't have as much hiss on my playback as my SBPCI, please correct if i'm wrong b4 friday. thats why i wanted a new one. it should work with PA9, and flawlessly i hope. once again, correct me if i'm wrong. also, i wanted to get live, but i want to upgrade to 24 bit recording, so i wanted to go major, or as major as i can afford. trust me, i know it's not the nicest, but i am on a budget. just for amusement, i drive AND smoke, so my money really flys. let me know if any of this info is off base. thanks.

Rock Star,

You did mention that you wanted to "upgrade" to 24-bit recording, but I'm not sure what exactly you intend to use this card for. If you desire a quality recording/playback card on a budget, you may want to look at the new E-MU 0404. Keep in mind, however, that this card wouldn't work for you if you intend to use it for EAX powered games as well as a surround sound setups.

i just took the pro audio 9 cd over to my friend's house (SBLive) and tried to do what i wanted to do with my file there and it played fine, so i think it must make some difference, but know i'm debating between audigy and santa cruz (turtle beach). audigy seems more like a gamer card, and i am a musician, so they don't mix.

Seriously consider the M-Audio Audiophile 2496...probably the same price as the Audigy, but far better for the musician.

Rock Star,

For budget recording and high-quality playback, you simply can't beat the E-MU 404 (~$99). If you need special EAX sound support for gaming or need to hook your card up to a surround sound speaker setup, you may want to look at another card. The Chaintech AV-710 is probably the cheapest decent sounding card that you can find at $24 (www.newegg.com)... Though if your interested in recording, I still think that the E-MU 0404 is your best bet.

The Audiophile 2496 was and is a good card, however my 2496 can't hold a candle to my E-MU 0404. Those who currently own a 2496, will probably find good use for it for some years to come. With the E-MU 0404 and 2496 costing $99 and having owned both, I simply cannot recommend the 2496 over the 0404.

whattaguy makes an excellent point.

Keiip in mind this is Canadain prices but for the computer i'm building i have the option of the audigy 2 ZS (or whatever it's called ) and it is $130, or the option of the audiophilie which is $146. I don't need either card but if i did (and it was for recording purposes) i would go with the audiophilie. The trade off is no surround sound but higher quality A/D converters, better drivers and the ability to record at 24/96. I have hard that the 24 statement made by creative is not exactly true. Something like it will play back at 24 bit but does not record at 24 bit. you may want to ask a more knowledgable member here for details.

not to fear, i'm getting a santa cruz. i just hope it works with Pro Audio 9.

It's official. You really are an idiot. Saying in one sentence that you want to 'get in to 24 bit recording', then buying a $36 soundcard...

What a maroon.

gotta admit, i did not see that coming. Don't know if that was entirely necessary but funny i guess. meh, creative makes ok soundcards. I doubt it would be the limiting factor for somebody that is new to recording anyways. I remember with my tascam us122, eventough that is kiindof a piece of shit, my recording skill and telent was my limiting factor.

Put it this way, some guy at sony music could make a dam better recording with gear from the 1970's than i coudl with the gear of today.

Dar, that was directed @ Rock Star 87 - not at you.

As far as I can tell you are neither an idiot nor a maroon, which is more than I can say for Mr. Rock Star...

ya i know.... still funny though...
gotta have thick skin around here! :D

I'LL SHOW THEM, I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!! anyways, i got a santa cruz, and i have the same problem, static with my internal synth. i am starting to get pissed, but maybe u know if it's a software problem. i don't think so, but it might be. i use Pro Audio 9, and i know it's old, but i wouldn't think it adds synth static.

If you spent some of the money (that now goes toward polluting your body and the atmosphere) on gear you'd spend less valuable board space with your idiotic amazement that professional or even acceptable results are not going to come out of a $39 sound card!
