Audacity

ive found myself using audacity to mix my acoustic guitar. I just plug the fitted guitar's output to the line in, record, record over, etc. Its a free program and seems to work, but i get this static. Im using a p.o.s. chord. Is it the chord? is it the guitar or computer? Furthermore i have a very nice stanton mixer for turntables. perhaps this could help? Thanks!

Line-in from a guitar is a no-no - the incoming signal is too low, and you are losing frequencies, and SNR is bad. Get a cheap pre-amp, and go from guitar to pre-amp to line-in.

If your mixer has a pre-amp, it might do the job as well.

If you are really low-budget, try the mic-in of the sound card instead.

If you are even remotely serious about this hobby/profession, spend the dough for a better cord.

Running it through the mixer won't hurt, and is a reasonable solution for now.
