From feedback from my last track (Cheeky request post) and listening to a lot of stuff here I realised that my other mixes where muddy and the drums boxy. I've add some EQ to my track on my last post (appreciated if you could take a listen) and have played about with EQ on this other mix and curious what people think. Many thanks in advanced.

I am going for a late 60's/early 70's feel.

Could someone also let me know how do you get your soundcloud track to appear in the post itself? :D

You're right. The snare is hollow. Look to add some beef down and around 200 cycles. The kick needs attention too. It's almost non-existent.

You're moving in the right direction though ... as you've pretty much nailed the period you were going for.

Thanks K-dub, I think to fix this I need to go back and remix, although some of the problems might have been made when tracking, so might not be fixable.

I like the era/style of the song. You should listen to anything Poetic Intensity, RAMI or GregL say re the snare - being drummers they KNOW.
The bass solo sounds too different to the chugging bass - the chugging bass needs a little of the definition the solo bass has - but only a little. The bass solo also slips in it's timing ain a few points. As a bassist I applaud it's inclusion but it doesn't really fit.- particularly straight after the guitar solo. maybe have a bar or two of fun bass in the outro?
Panning is cool BUT you might consider using it as an effect to accentuate rather than a set & forget for a minute.
I like the song - it harkes back to an era Lenny Kravits tried to emulate nut ending doing pastiches of.
I look forward to your tweaking.

I've just spent an afternoon in the shed adding some compression and eq and stuff to the drums, did a rough mix and came away thinking the drums sounded miles better. Did a comparison to my earleir version and can't tell any difference, if anything, probably sounds worse , although you can hear the bass drum now.

Computer decided not to play CDs, so could listen to anything else to reset my ears.

Anyway I've put a link. Many thanks for any advice you can give.

Thank for your thoughts. I'll probably not change the structure or tracking much, it's another song I wrote when I was 16 (I've embelished it since) that I've ressurected and rerecorded to practice my drum playing, recording and mixing with.

I had no idea what I was going to do for a bass solo, I just knew I wanted one there, so I was trying all sorts of things out so by the time it got to this version my fingers where dropping off, so it is a bit clumsy.

My main aim is the apply what I learn to some new songs. Not sure what you meant about the panning effect, do you mean it went on a bit long? Again, when I played with the band I was in when I was 16 I used to get carried away with this solo and just do loads rubbing the guitar against the mic stand and stuff until everyone got bored or it all just fell apart, so I was trying to recreate that out of sentimentality :guitar:.

I'm not near studio at moment T. I'm wandering N.E. U.S. but will be back late Tuesday. I'll try to give a listen then. Please feel free to drop me a WTF? reminder should I forget to check back. I get caught in a lot of life stuff ... but I'm still happy to help.
