Taking the slow road
wondering what you at-4040 lovers like about it and how it might add to the collection.

Well, since I don't have too much to compare it too, just less expensive mics, it seems to sound more clear on my voice. Just plain. Doesn't do anything to the sound. I have a couple of inexpensive Nady's, and they seem to sound different. Caprure more highs, as compared to lows, maybe? Not a bad thing, as that works sometimes, just not as natural. I'm not a good singer, this might not mean alot. Just works for me, for the money.

I find that it's fairly clear and flat. I have a C1, and it's very bright, and has some 'extra somthing' in the higher ends. I also have an NTK, and it's warmer and darker I find...but it's a tube mic - it should be!

The AT 4040 is FANTASTIC in my opinion as a female vocal mic and an acoustic guitar mic in my opinion. I've also liked it as a mono overhead. It does a decent job at distance on a guitar cab as well, but I like my NTK on most male vocals better, and I also lean it's direction on guitar cabs - but maybe that's because it's got more color(?) to it...

thanks, looks like I'll have one under the tree so I can add my impressions of it soon :)
