I am wanting to spend between 150 and low 200's for a vocal mic. Which of the at4040 or the C1 would be better. Or is there another one that I'm missing for about that range?

It really depends on your vocals and how YOU like to sound... I'd get the AT4040. The C1 is kind of a one trick pony.

The AT4040 is a little bit more than $200. If you're doing apples to apples pricewise you need to look at the 3035.

I would go with the AT4040
Audio Technica is an established company with a good reputation. Admittedly I have never used a Studio Projects Mic and most likely never will as I have been turned off by the antics seen on this BBS.

I have been using an SP B-1 for alittle while now and have been quite impressed by it on acoustic guitar, so impressed I will probably get a C-1 in the near future.

The AT4040 is the more quality mic but the answer should be to get the mic that's right for you.

The C1 is a large condenser with a hyped high end that can do a good job on a lot of male vocals.

The AT4040 is a more balanced mic and it seems more open sonically. It can get fairly good results on a number of sources including male and female voices.
