I've heard responses on the at4033 being good for vocals, but I'll also be using it for acoustic guitar, should I look at buying something else?

I think that the AT4033 is a great all around mic to have. It is good on just about everthing. It may not be the best mic for every application. But it certainly won't be the worst. It is a little on the bright side, but not bright/harsh like a Studio Projects C1 9in my opinion).

the at4040? some people prefer it to the at4033 on vocals and guitar....but on that same wavelength, when i check out the gear of some of the big studios...they have the 4033 so there must be something to it....i dont think you can go wrong with either one

The 4033 is one of my go to mics for acoustic guitars. Pretty decent on vocals too. You could do much worse.

buy the 4033, it's a fucking great all purpose mic, from vocals to guitars and acoustic stuff, go ahead...

YES! 4033's

I took a recording class at my local tech (Nashville)
We had the opportunity to use alot of different mics, most of the classics i.e 414's, SM 81's, Neumann mics, etc etc...

I at the time had a CAD E350, after hearing the 4033's I immediately sold my CAD and purchased a pair of 4033's! What a great mic, I use it for Vocals, Acoustic guitar, stereo overheads for the drums. They really sound nice, I cant say enough about them, especially for the price.
The bottom line though, it's really in the way you use your gear, I have great results from a simple SM 57. Sometimes I even prefer the 57 over other mics far more expensive, just depends on the situation.
A great performance will make a mediocre recording sound great :-)

Happy recording,

Just got one and it is now my favorite mic. I have an NTK, which was my fav but now I opt for the 4033. In fact, call me crazy but I am selling off most of my mics and picking up the 4050, 4047 and eventually the 4060. Their mics are that good.

I recently got a 4047 (you can pick up the bulk version for about the same price as the 4033) and I'm very happy with it. I don't have the 4033. The 4047 is supposed to be less bright (among other things I assume) than the 4033. I'm personally scared to death of the suggestion of brightness after struggling with the C1 for a couple of years!!

True that it's less bright than a 4033 (and a GREAT mic) but don't let that mislead you. They have top end for days but it's not the hyped nasty top that a lot of the budget mics are known for.

Okay, you're crazy! I think you are much better off with a few different flavors in the mix. You are certainly correct that they are great but I need more variety.

thanx for giving me de warm n fuzzies about making my next buy, that's exactly what I was looking for.

I've got 3 of 'em.

2 are studio mics and 1 is used for my bluegrass band's 1-mic live set-up.

2¢...

More praise for the 4033.

It works on everything. If all my other mics broke, I would still be able to get good recordings with the 4033.

Decent on vocals. Good on guitar cab (especially clean electric). Excellent on acoustic guitar. Also great for hand percussion.

Great mic to have around. Definitely a purchase you won't regret.

i really like mine on electric bass when i want a really nice clear bass sound.

used mine on almost everything.
every poor bastard should have at least one.

I have 2x 4040s and they are great- i use them for drum overheads, vocals, and acoustic guitars. Ive never heard the 4033. But im looking at the info that came with my mics about the 40 series- notable differences are that the 4040 has a wider (20-20,000hz) frequency response than the 4033 (30-20,000), the 4040 is 5db less noisy, and is externaly polarized as opposed to the 4033, which has a fixed-charge back-plate condenser, which i assume accounts for the difference in noise.

Ill bet they sound pretty similar.

Has anyone used a 4033 or 4047 on screamo vocals? What about Rock vocals? Is the 4047 as multi-purpose as the 4033? Im looking for an upgrade from my C1.

Yes sir Mr. Max you will find the Audio Technica 4000 series to be money, pure money!

I don't think I've ever seen anybody dislike AT on here :) The 4033 looks a bit...well...I used one and was pleased...But i think the soundcard was great, so the sm-57 also sounded good...
