Hello everyone, I'm new here...
Think someone can help me...I was planning to buy an AT4040 cause I read a lot of positive reviews about it but while looking for it I found a really good deal on an AT4033 (that streets for 100$ more).
If i could have them at the exact same price...which one should I choose and, that's the point, why?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Of all the searching I've done on this site, I'm convinced the AT4040 wins hands down. That's my next purchase. All the reviews I've read here and elsewhere say it sounds good on almost anything you point it at.

i think the 4033 is a little more "true" and the 4040 has more color

i don't believe the 4033 is actually a LDC by the way (if that matters)

the 4040 was actually meant to replace the 4033. i think the audio technica guy said something about a higher spl on the 4040 and them trying to improve on the design or the 4033. if you remember at one time they dicontinued the 4033 ad it disappeared. the AT guy said people prefered the sound of the 4033 so they broght it back.

i use a 4033 and i'm happy with it...

I have 2 4040s and they sound a little different from each other. dont rule out individual variation in sound- listen before you buy.

I just bought an AT4040 on Ebay. It should be here day after tomorrow. I am hoping it will be a good multi-purpose mic - vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, drum overhead.

4033 / 4040

I find just the opposite. I have both mics and the 4040 is very honest although I don't consider the 4033 to be a colored mic. I think someone called it a little more "grainy" . At least that is my perception of the two.

I think they're both good mics but different.

I have a 4040, and it seems to capture the sounds of my voice, and an acoustic very well. I have not tried it on anything else, as I mic my amp with a 58. For the money, it seems to be a good mic.
