AT3035 better than NT1000?

Which one is better towards brightness and clarity? i own the 3035, but require the brightness for singing vocals.

I found the 3035 to be plenty bright, almost too accentuauted in the highs, so if you need something with more "brightness" there is probably something else going on that is not providing the results you seek

Well, the sound is quite thin. and i'm using motu preamps. is the NT1000 any better than the 3035 though? if so, in what ways?

I think you will find the Rode more "open" in the upper mids. Not harsh, but rather more transparent. The bottom is as tight as a drum as well. There's NO doubt it is noticably quieter as well. But then Rode's are probably the quietest (self noise) of any mics on the planet. They are known for that for sure. Superbly built and backed. I had one but opted for a NT2-A instead. I also on occasion use a NT1-A (on acoustic guitar and male voice). When I get real serious I break out the K2.

quite the oppisite really, the 3035 is bright, often probablimatically sibellent on vox. (i own)
and reports on the nt1 are much the same, if not more so (very bright) i don't own.

4040 is a part of their 40 series which is better. (i own, very nice on many things, esp things that need to be warmed up a little, like people with narrow voices)

don't own the adk, but reports on it are very positive.
both street for 300$ i think and would probably represent a good step up from the nt1 or 3035.

I own an NT1000. I don't use it much because it's a little too bright to my ears. But then I'm a ribbon guy....

Personally I would avoid the nt1000 - i found it bright in a harsh way, the ntk would be better (more lows but still harsh).
For inexpense I would go with adk hamburg or vienna or at 4050 (used) The 4050 would be very clear/bright and useful on many things besides vocals.

If you want to get a very nice brighter mic that is not harsh, consider a peluso 22 251 (thats what replaced my nt1000 and ntk).

The adk mics and the at 40 series mics are the only "cheep" mics I've used that arn't harsh in the top end (especially when used on many tracks in a mix)


(I've only used the 3035 once but my impression was it was on the "bright & clear" side of the spectrom)?

the "thin" sound you refer to may be as much as a result of your room and your technique as it is the microphone...while the 3035 isn't the greatest mic in the world, i know people who have successfully used it quite often on vocals

well my vocal booth is quite dead. i placed blankets to dampen the room. it ain't the perfect place to record cause it's extremely small but it works.

Final decision here: 1) keep the AT3035, and add one MXL mic such as the V67g.
OR
2) sell the AT3035, and grab the NT1000.

the 4050 will probably go around the same price as a new nt1000, and is ten times the mic - way more versitile, and you wont be asking in three months "sould I sell the nt1000 to get a _______________" and if you do ever want to sell it, you will probably make every peny back that you spent on it.
