It will only put you $200 further away from something usefull. Would you rather have 5 pieces of crap or a used Avalon?

Oh ok... :(

thanks guys for reality check :)

But if they are down to $99 i'm getting one if only to warm the can on those cold winter nights :D

cheers

For $199 it sure looks cool. That might be reason enough to get one.

chessrock are you answering my post or talking to your self? :D

it does look cool though ... doesn't it? polished turd??? :D

Disclamer: I don't own B gear and don't have a strong opinion about the company. This pre might actualy be pretty good for the money but I who knows. The apparent negativity towards B gear is something I picked up on this BBS (ah the power of sujestion :) ) so whether I want it or not I now think twise now before buying B gear (maybe that's why I don't have any :D ) and of course the old "if it looks to good to be true... "

still if I find it for $99 i'm getting it :D

cheers

Again, it might serve it's purpose providing a "sound flavor" that's different (not better) than other pre's. In this case it is wise to have several types of pre's that will give you that audio "ear candy" sound you are seeking and if this gives you that flavor, so be it BUY IT! But NOT @ 199 !!

If you want to get something cool as rack "fillers" look into the Funk Logic stuff its cheaper and prob. works as well :D

If you're handy with a soldering iron, then I would suspect that it might be the beginnings of a worthwhile science project. :)

Seriously, the tubes aren't bad; it uses some of the Russian Sovtek 12AX7's from what I read about it.

I would check in to it and see if it would be feasible to replace the opamps with some burr-browns. If it uses a real plug instead of a wall wart that's another bonus. Might actually make for a decent little solid state / toob hybrid with a little tinkering.

That Funk Logic stuff looks pretty cool! I've thought about getting them, but there's other stuff my $40 can get me (Food/Beer).
I was at a concert last night (Janis Ian) and the sound guy had a bunch of them in his rack.

I have heard from a dude locally that said that the tube ultragain is noisy. But those Knobs are priceless, I must go to the store and liberate them and put them on a good pre.

I dig the idea of the 1950 model to go with my 8 channel yamaha mic pre, my problem is that useing 8 tracks will introduce more noise than I could want to deal with.

i got to hear the tube pre.. it doesn't sound bad, or maybe it could have been the nt2 but it didn't sound bad at all...

and it doesn't say anything b-stock.. thats regualr price now, b/c behringer stopped making the tube units...all 4 units are $199 each
