I've been recommending the ASUS CUBX mainboard as a good alternative to the many i8XX chipsets out there. If you are using one of these boards for audio applications, without problems, good. (if your using this board with a PIII and Photoshop - and it works, i'd like to know.)
----
I don't know that I can suggest it as being a great board anymore. There is a problem with this board and Adobe Photoshop 5.5. ASUS claims the problem was with the P3BF, and has been fixed, this is bullshit. When opening up large graphic files the machine will reboot or hang (do to a demand for voltage on the board, that it can't provide). This is a concern, because in audio we are also dealing with large files - so it now makes me a bit leary of this motherboard.
If your using this motherboard succesfully in a DAW, please let me know. If you took my suggestion, bought this board and it is giving you grief - sorry.
I don't know that this will be a problem with DAW's, but this experience with Photoshop on a customers machine certainly has lessened my opinion of ASUS.
