which is the most stable and fastest (lowest latency) with out burning up too much cpu power ?

im runing cakewalk 4 with 2 m-audio 1010 on a 3.2 p4 with 4 gig of ram
drums come from bfd.i like to run 4-16 audio tracks out to the mixer to mixdown the final take.

thanking anybody in advance if they can shed some light on this. :)

Yep. ASIO is the way to go. I ran a test with an M-Audio mobile pre to test the round trip latency. With WDM it was 302 ms, with ASIO 41 ms, and with Apple CoreAudio 22 ms. Obviously, Apple rules on this one, but ASIO should treat you right in Windows.

It really depends on how good a job the particular soundcard vendor does in writing their specific drivers. Some spend more attention on their ASIO drivers, and their WDM drivers are an afterthought. Sometimes it's the other way around. It's not a blanket thing... depends on your soundcard.

ASIO does have an inherent limitation that precludes using two or more soundcards simultaneously. That may or may not be a consideration for you.

Wow I only get 6ms of latency with my M-audio 24/96 cards. :p

That is not Quite true at all is I can run both my Delta 44 and my Onboard sound card at the same time and record from them both when useing the ASIO4All Drivers and you can run several Delta Cards on the Same system in ASIO Mode, at least with the ASIO4All drivers you can....

Cheers

i tried the asio drivers ,the results are, they were a bit less tacksing on the
cpu power.

but i got a slight problem ......if the pod racks are on then cakewalk only finds the pods and not the sound cards.

pods off and start cakewalk and there are both the delta1010's

when using wdm no problem if the pods are on.

i am using the drivers that came with the 1010's

does anybody know how to fix this otherthan turn the pods off first!!!

just before some smart arse suggests it

any ideas
