USB, USB2 and firewire qualify as digital inputs now? Not that I have any experience at all with USB or firewire interfaces, but I believe the fact remains that they have analog inputs on the devices themselves. I'm of the mindset that he would want to look for the optical or SPDIF inputs for any digital signal. I could be, and usually am wrong though.

No, your right. Those are computer interface types, not digital I/O in the sense that I'm used to (S/PDIF, AES/EBU, TDIF, ADAT). Right concept though.

Most people associate USB, USB2, firewire and other similar protocols with computors, so it's not unusual to refer to those protocols "digital". If you want to put a sharp point on it, the data/signal being sent/transmitted through those connectors/cables may or may not be purely digital, but it's not unusual to refer to those connectors/cables as "digital" types, in that they aren't the more common connector types (like 1/4", RCA, XLR, 1/8" mini, etc.) normally associated with analog signals.

It wasn't the digital part he was questioning, and your right, the only thing that's purely digital is truth tables, boolean logic, and code. His point was that those are interfaces, not I/O. No big.

I have a Tube MP, and almost traded it for a Roland MIDI controller. Something like a gut instinct made me stop. I knew I was going to miss the little booger, and I'd be sorry! But I'd sweeten 'er up, if I could.

I'm gonna have to ask him what he did. Hes kind of a mad scientist.
All he does all day for work is mod and build pedals and gear and repairs amps and guitars.......... Lucky bastard!
He just built me a Fuzz that the only thing I have heard that compaires is a Expandora. But its even nastier just thing as wide open as possible.
We can it the "KNOB"........

I'll find out for sure. I guess it sounded warmer and most things I record with it sit nice in the mix. But you can never trust my ears, I'm kinda crazy form all the hugh volumes.

Most people mod the MP's by swapping the op amps out with Burr Brown 2604's and swapping the tubes for better NOS ones (telefunker, mullard, etc). I've also heard of people removing capacitors and beefing up the power supply but that gets over my head. I did the first two mods on my MP and it did really improve the sound.

Cool! Thanks Tape', Blaze- hey Blaze, if you find out your friend's recipe, would you post it? If it's much different than Taperocket's info here... but that sounds like a good start.

I'm doing this for fun, see; if I were into it for real pro-level work, I'd have a Manley or something, I guess. But I don't see that happenning! I'm a DIY guy (see my DIY shock-mount in the mics section- totally where I'm at).

I have a Presonus Tube-Pre also, but I kind of like the ART better. Thus far.
