The remix:

I did a little adjusting on the mix and spread things out a bit. also tweaked the EQ on several tracks.

Your lead tone is perfect. The end is fucking weird, but that's not a negative thing for a song that's been blasted all over Texas radio for 40 years. That last one is a good mix, I think. Sounds like you spread the drums out a bit, but maybe the guitar panning is just helping it seem wider. Overall really good job.

Thanks Chris. I appreciate you listening and taking time to comment. I panned the main rhythm guitars and bass to the left and the accent rhythm guitar and bass drum to the right. (Not all the way hard left and hard right...varying degrees of panning)
I put the lead guitar a bit to the right and the vocal straight down the middle. I used high pass EQ'ing on the guitars, vocals, and the stereo drum overheads. I used low pass EQ'ing on the bass and bass drum. Also some compression a few things. Not much reverb on anything. I believe just a small bit of verb on the vocal and the accent rhythm guitar panned far right.

The hardest thing for me to make myself do is cut the lows from the guitars and vocals...I always get the illusion that I'm thining the sound and making it suck. It always sounds better in the mix after the lows are cut out if them though. When each instrument has its own space it really opens up the sound of the mix.

That last mix sounds really good, sir!

Thanks Broken_H. I appreciate you giving it a re-listen and commenting.
I'm pretty happy with the mix with the exception of the level not being as hot as I would like it to be. I have been given some fantastic tips on getting more volume out of my mixes in the mixing forum. I started a thread on the topic.

hopefully I will be able to get a lot more volume out of my songs.
