Is a tascam 1641 compatible with a Nady TMP-3 Tube channel with preamp/Eq/compressor???

and if they are...what type of cable would i need to hook it up? woud i need a trs cable?

Yes, the units are compatible. I would recommend that you use an XLR to TRS or an XLR to XLR cable, and here's why- The 1/4" outputs on the Nady unit are unbalanced, so if you go by 1/4" to the Tascam's ins, the signal will be unbalanced, even though the Tascam has balanced ins. That's no big deal, but you lose about 6db of gain. The balanced outs on the Nady are XLR's. You could also go XLR to XLR, as the front panel XLR ins on the Tascam are mic/line ins, and you will be using line level, not mic level. Make sure the +4/-10 switch on the back of the Tascam is set for +4, not -10. Also, if you go XLR to XLR, make sure you are using a shielded (patch) cable, *not* a mic cable, which are generally unshielded, unless you like lots of noise, and you want to hear the local AM radio station on your recordings. Good luck-Richie

dont be surprised if it works better with the 1/4" input even if it is unbalanced... i haven't seen the schemo for the 1641 but i have seen the one for the 1884 which i own... and i'm afraid if you come out of the pre balanced at line levels you're likely to exceed the mic level pre of the tascam... ymmv...
