Are there any mods or tweaks for the Rode Classic?

Just wodered if there are any mods to improve the Rode Classic (Mk1)?

Are there any Classic users out there? How is the 32db self noise issue (Mk1 version)?

I have a NTK not the classic (I LOVE the NTK btw) but I'm assuming you can change the tube out to a mullard, telefunken, amperex or somthing else that would subtly change the sound.

I thought I remembered hearing that the tube used on the classic is a rather special tube that's out of production everywhere, but Rode has a cache of them? I think?

Improve the classic? Now why would you want to go and do that. I used one extensively in a studio I used to work at and never noticed the self noise to be an issue. It's a damn nice mic but I usually like my NTK better.

Yeah the tubes are some old NOS they purchased from somewhere. Replacing could defintely be an issue...

One of the engineers who I respect a lot says the "Classic" is the best R&B mic. If you don't like it, then sell it rather than modifying it.
