I`m getting an HP pavillion dv6 with the i7 chip..will that work with Reaper. Adobe Audition and Pro Tools?:D

Most of the bigger names will definitely have good multi-core support. I know Studio One does, but I haven't used any other DAW on anything more than a single core in years.

Cubase 6 never lets me get over 40% CPU usage before it starts crapping out on me. Even with the buffer size set at maximum! :(
I'm running a 3.06ghz first gen i7 quad.

Actually... I've never really put much consideration into it, but...
Is anyone able to get around a solid 80% CPU usage out of Cubase before things get 'poppin 'nd click'n?

Is there anyway I can improve CPU usage in Cubase?

How many tracks, VSTi's etc. Anytime I've had problems I'd see spikes, I'd be running at say 20% and then blam, it would spike to 100 and I'd get poppin'. I think it was something else, like my wireless or some other process kicking in.

Yeah man, seems you got other things messing you up. I am a plug-in abuser. I can track vocals on a full mix of 40+tracks and who knows how many plugs, with the lowest latency/buffer setting available with my interface, with no dropouts whatsoever.

You have setup your PC for audio performance and disabled all the necessary stuff right? Mine is still internet enabled, but all virus and updates are disabled. Is your OS OEM, or did it come with it?
