So it's really not strange to have friends take care of friends that way. Sure, you do favors or may ask for favors from time to time, but spreading some money around is a commonly accepted practice in the music business!
If you don't want to move your studio then don't. Also, if the piano needs tuning, then that is the responsibility of your friend who wants to make the recording, not you. A while back a singer wanted to make demo recording here, using my piano. She paid for the tuner, the engineer, and my time. Usually, when I've gone to a commercial studio to record I hire a tuner to make sure the piano is in tip top shape. The only time I don't is if the piano has been tuned for the session before mine and the people at the studio tell me it will be fine.
The way you are going to get these guys to stop sucking up your time is to start attaching dollar figures to your recording services. In all honesty, they probably need you a lot more than you need them.

That's the part that gets my goat when this kind of thing does happen. I don't mind doing freebie favors for my friends and associates at all; in fact if you were to ask them I'm sure they'd say that I am very generous with my time and efforts (and if you ask my family, they'd say that I am waaaay tooo generous with my freebiesSonicAlbert said:

There comes a point where it is disrespectful for a friend to expect a fourth or fifth bowl of gruel; there is the implication that they feel that my time is worthless. Well, if it's so damn wothless, than what do you need me for?
When those thoughts start creeping in, all it will do is strain the friendship to continue. Better to beg off - or best yet, to have the agreement worked out beforehand - than to test the limits.

Take the number of rep power points (not rep points) that you lost, multiply by a hundred and you'll be close to the rep power of the person that hit you. For example, if you dropped from 123 to 121, the person who hit you has a rep power of somewhere around 200 (plus or minus 25%). That might help narrow it down.zacanger said:

Don't worry about the negative REP. I've gotten negative REP for posts that were so tame and non-confrontational you wouldn't believe it. Sometimes people will leave little insulting remarks and name-calling as well. Kind of amazing how easily people can get offended, or maybe they are just having a bad day, who knows.

i've witnessed assholes like that in action. they will walk in, complain that every guitar in the store is a low end chinese made POS and that we are overpriced and that they can get everything for half the price.
then they will touch EVERY guitar, play each one. bitch about the amps, then make you set up the amps and guitars, in multiple combinations of course. after 2 hours with the same douschebag, he'll grab the free local music magazine at the door and ask you how much. when you say they're free, he'll say thanks, see you later kid.

yeah...that's what i've thought. he really doesn't care about my time as long as he gets a decent cd. he got me first to play cello to fill out some low end some times. but then he found out i play accordion, glock, violin, guitar, piano, and have recording gear. So i play those, and now we have a bassist.
i think i'm going to quit once after our first week of november tour is done.
the band is really just a songwriter and another singer without me. I want to concentrate on my own stuff. and i'm getting swamped with jobs that pay money and devoting my time to his wants. he has a tendancy of being one minded, and quite bossy. i don't think he really knows i have this band in my hand. they look like just another opening act to ignore without instrumentation to fill it out.
