Matty Boy, I am VERY sorry if you took my reply as an insult to you.

People are now worried that youll be to scared to submit any more mp3's now.

I think they are selling you short, and I bet youll post some more songs.

Infact, if you ARE actually upset, why dont you make a song about what a dick I am. I'll even pay to go have it mastered! And if you need help mixing it, Ill be more than happy.

Pipeline:
I'm not pissed. I respect that you have your opinion, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I was just hoping to make the point that I would like criticism of the tracking/mixing. No hard feelings on this end, and I hope that you don't have any either. Look forward to hearing some of your songs soon.

Matty

btw Track Rat, I agree. I had to track the drums to one stereo track on a laptop, and that experiment didn't work out well. I am looking for a drummer closer to home to work with until I get better myself.

"Look forward to hearing some of your songs soon." I dont really make my own...just mix other people's. Which makes me seem like even more of a dick.

Theres stuff I done posted all over this forum, though, and I think youll hear a few that are questionably blatant ripoffs.

not so fast yet. Stereo drums can be fine, and DONT necessarily have to mean only 2 tracks! It could be a mess of mics going thru the 2 buss of a mixer on the way to the sound card.

if you get a chance have a look at Fletchers 3 mic drums here:

http://store.yahoo.com/mercenary-audio/3micdrumstuf.html

or my 2 mic setups here:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=64567

You can get WELL past " good enough to show the substance " with these setups. What sound card is it by the way? and what software?

Something similar happened about two months ago in here with an up-and-coming engineer, that produces highly polished stuff (no names)... the irony is the song he produced was about how the band "Creed" was not an original band (or... how they SUCKED :D) and THIS coming from a band that sounds quite a bit like the current Sum41, Blink182, Lit craze... :D

I remember that post. I also noted the irony of the situation. That song did kick ass, though. I'm sure I'll buy their cd and go to their show when they come to town but it easily could have been lifted from a blink album with some added harmony.

It's tough world being a smug musician.
You lose more fans than you make, imho.

and by the way, matty, I checked out the song too. don't know who NOFX is but I dug your tune. Very nice guitar tone.

I am using a creative ensoniq s/c and a shareware program called Multiquence. I am a poor teacher, and have to make do with what I have. I am limited to 16/44.1 with the software I have, but I am in the process of building up my gear and software. I tracked the drums on a shitty p133 laptop with a stock soundcard, which is why the drums sound bad, and then did the rest at home. I can track on three tracks at home (I have two soundcards, but only three outs on my board:main r/l and eff. send) , and that will help, as well as the fact that I am remodeling my house and building a recording room that I will accoustically treat. It will take some time for me to build up my gear and expertise, but I have time. It doesn't really feel like work when I am doing music. Thanks for the interest Pipeline.

Thanks Stone. LP-Marshall-57. Can't really go wrong with that.

dont worry about being limited to 44/16, theres a ways to go before you hit those rails. Its more than possible to make a decent drum recording with a soundblaster. What kind of mics are you using? And there must be some sort of setting that is going wrong also. Theres a wet blanket getting thrown over the audio right now.

57 on snare, stereo overheads (these chinese Superlux sd condensors) and a 57 on Bass Drum. All go into my Soundcraft board and into computer. I think bad OH placement is one concern of mine. I am going to play with this a lot when I have my room done.

i enjoyed listening....everyone pretty much covered the mix......

btw, there is an ignore function....id recommend putting dickline on it...... :D :p ;)

Thanks for the support, Gidge. I think we have things worked out.

Are those drums on a stereo track that is easy to mp3?

Id LOVE a chance at touching them up, if you'd let me
