Hi! Consult me, please. I'm using Cubase 4 AI and I wonder if

1) there is no possibility to apply FX to an event (sound sample) and render the result in place or to another track. This function is so handy in Pro Tools or Reaper etc. - is this possible in Cubase? (of course this is possible to render the soloed track as a project to a file and then add it manually, but this is handy only when can be done fast)

2) there is no possibility to copy/paste track effects setup to another track. Am I right that I can do it only via a file, but never via the clipboard?

You need to set up a "FX send"

There should be an option to create a new FX Channel. If you create a channel with reverb on it, for example, then edit the "send" settings of another track so you are sending some of that signal to the reverb channel it will give the 'event', as you call it, reverb. This reverb will be on the FX Channel. The original track will remain dry.

No, thats is not exactly the thing I was talking about in 1). I meant the ability to replace an event with the event after the effects were applied. So I want to be able to replece the sound with the RESULTING WAVEFORM. Am I? The ability to generate the resulting waveform to new/another track is also interesting.

I don't know what the AI version is, but you should be able to process tracks with the various audio processes, or apply any plugins you wish, just by right clicking on the event. Also, you can apply all the effects on the track by "freezing" that track.

Thanx for the response.

Right-clicking on the event and choosing what?
What should I do to "freeze" the event?

It looks like the origin of the problem is in the truncation of AI version...

Right click and choose process or plugins.

There should be a little snowflake (see arrow) that is the freeze option.

Thanks a lot! I really do not have this in AI...

And what is about my question 2)?

What about applying your effect as an insert and setting the dry/wet mix to 100% wet...?

This is what I usually do, but I was asking about REPLACING the source with the processed result.

I'm not familiar with Reaper or Pro-Tools, so not sure what you're referencing, but.... if you want to apply your fx's to a track and render it to another track, you can mixdown that one track solo'd and be sure to select the option to Import to Audio Track (or something like that). Then delete the original track if you son't want it anymore. It's pretty quick this way. Takes only the amount of time to render.

Not quite sure what you're asking about No. 2. I think you're asking how to copy whatever track/fx settings from one track and apply to another. You can right click on the channel in the mixer and save the settings, the load the same settings to another channel. Nothing to do with the clipboard that I know of.

hope this helps.

Ok. Well, do you know about exporting a mixdown? There is an option at the bottom that says "Import into pool" and "Import into Mix". These options will let you solo a track (as chili says) and whack the results back into the mix as a 'replaced' version of the original. Its exactly the same as processing a peice of audio, just involves an extra step.
