People who use sound forge 4.5, can you tell me what applications you use it for. example: mastering, mixing, tracking.
Cause I just ordered that along w/ an m audiophile 2496 card for my 16 track adat studio. I ordered it cuz it was on sale super cheap. And I need a program to mix my adats down to so the mix can be mastered.
Thanks
Adam

USEDA :D

Just joking... :)

You WILL need Sound Forge or another program of that caliber for editing, FX's, and mastering.

Go to the Sound Forge site and do a little research on that product at:

peace...

You cannot (really) use SoundForge for mixing. It handles single mono tracks or one stereo track. You can use it for destructive editing, and mastering.

Vegas is Sonic Foundry's app for multitrack recording/mixing. Vegas LE (limited edition, 8 tracks max?), Vegas Audio everything you'd need for audio (except midi), will even handle one video track, Vegas Video basically Vegas Audio plus lots of Video capabilities.

What do you mean when you say "destructive editing and mastering"?
I'm going to use it for mastering and editing.
I'm wanting to use sound forge 4.5 like a 2 track mixdown deck that I can edit my final mix on.
Thanks Adam

"destructive editing and mastering"?

I guess putting those two right next to each other makes things a little unclear.

In Vegas, you cut/paste/apply FX do ALL kinds of crazy shit, and the original .wav files are untouched. (NON-destructive editing).

In SoundForge, changes you make are applied to the actual .wav file you are working on (destructive editing). (You do have the ability to "undo" changes, but I hope you like watching progress meters....:p I always make a copy of the original file just in case I do something that is truly destructive...)

SoundForge sounds like it will do what you want it for.

Thanks for all the info!
I checked out the sound forge web tutorials and that helped me understand the program.
Thanks
