wow, 1st guy out of the gate!
thanks for checking it out, and commenting...
some background to this track:
these two guys in british columbia, sent me data backups of bass guitar and drums.... a continuous song, for one hour and 7 minutes.
yikes!
it's a long instrumental..
the idea is, different people will collaborate on it over a period of time.
i'm just the first guy, of hopefully many, that will put their own stamps on it here and there......
i just took a 6 minute section that i just enjoyed the guitar tone on, mostly, and did a quick mixdown....
could be, that keys, or other guitars, or percussion, end up going all over the top of this..
but i thought it'd be kinda cool, to mix it down plain and unadorned, just like a basic 3-piece would sound...
this section of the song, is
kinda free form, and it has bits and pieces of sections that are more throroughly explored at different times during the entire piece.
not very good example of the whole, by itself though...
you get the wrong idea, just hearing this one section.
but, whatever.
the bass and drums were recorded live, i believe, probably the kit is all miced up with the bass player going direct.
they certainly did it in sections.
my part, is simply done....
a miced 1x12 cab, strat into Barber Direct drive SS pedal, into boogie, into cab, into mic, thru preamp, into recorder.
played just loud enough, to get some interaction between the guitar, which wants to sing, and the cab, which i stood pretty close to.
i mixed delay and reverb onto the guitar on mixdown, so a combination of room sound and the effects i put on give it the bigger 'room' sound.
i take the delay, and mix it hard right, the reverb, and mix it hard left, and that gives a pseudo 'stereo' spread.
the way, is a standard Crybaby.
the strat, is my custom made USACG cream strat with a bill lawrence humbucker in the bridge.
see pic...

hey bubba!
thanks for the kind words......
the drums, kinda came already mixed on my background tracks...
i DID add a bit of cathedral reverb, very lightly, to the overall drum tracks, trying to get to basically what you suggest, but it'd be a lot more obvious going back to the original tracks and putting them on there....
great piece of writing, hm, maybe on the bass player and drums part, for me, it was pure wanking, a first take effort! LOL
in other words, i winged it.....
TexRoadkill-
glad you liked it.
i'll pass on the suggestions to the drummer, so they can decide how they want to tweak the final product.
my guess is, they'll wait until all collaborators have put their two cents in, then figure out soundwise what works best.
thanks for listening!
