Hey, I just modded my Apex 460 with the Peluso CEK-12 capsule and a Cinemag 2480 transformer and I'm having a little problem. I followed the step by step directions on the Morph Productions website for the installation of the capsule and the transformer. Here is the problem... when I first turn on the mic it doesn't work and just gives out a weird pulsing noise. So I have to turn it off for about 15 seconds and then turn it back on and then the mic works, but there is still a problem. The weird pulse like noises are still there, but not consistent. The mic will work fine for about 10 seconds with no problems, then the pulsing noises start to happen out of no where while the mic is still working and then they stop for another 10 seconds and then repeat. How can I fix this? Did I possibly solder something wrong? Is it possibly something wrong with the capsule or transformer that I installed? Please help. Any information or tips would be highly appreciated.

Can you post a sample of the pulsing sound?

(I've got an unmodded 460 waiting to be modded, so I'll be more of a listener than a talker here, but I think a sample would help if you have one)

I have finally figured out the problem. After re-soldering all the connections, I still had the same problem. Then out of no where, I decided that I should see what would happen if I switch the tube I currently had in my mic to my old JJ E88CC. (I had put in a brand new Electro Harmonix gold plated 6072 tube at the same time I had installed the transformer and capsule, and I never thought that a tube could of possibly make pulsing noises until now.) When I put the JJ E88CC back in, the pulsing was non existent. Today, I was finally able to see how the new transformer and capsule sound like. After making multiple tests on vocals and many different instruments, I must say that it was well worth the money. I compared my modded Apex 460 to a Rode NTK on multiple things using my Universal Audio-LA-610 preamp/compressor then into my E-MU 1212m a/d converters at 96k.(same as Protools HD). To my ears, the modded 460 blew the Rode NTK away.

Sounds like the tube was leaking DC. Happened to me once. Any chance it was dropped?
