So, what's your beef with it? I'm not saying it's the ideal method, but for my environment, it seems like a good compromise. It's either that or a modeler direct. Actually, for some things, I'm going to be running a modeler -> clean amp -> iso-cab w/JBL. Hey, you do what you've gotta do to make the best of the situation.

I don't like iso cabs because there isn't enough air in them to give me the low end i want. But you do have to do what you have to do to get things done. It can be fine for many types of guitar tone, just not the ones I tend to go for.

I think they're a good idea, especially where you have sensitive neighbours and thin walls or need some separation when tracking with other instruments live.
But if they don't give you the sound you require or close, then they're useless. I built a variation of one in which I housed a box within a box and into the inner box, I place the amp. I can get pretty loud and the recorded sound is nicely raw. It takes a while getting all the settings as I want them though.
