Anyone with a J-Station Please HELP!

Ok, today was a great day, i finally got my J-station and my new sound card. As i was flipping through the manual i saw the requirements for the j edit software.....is the midi in and out on ur sound card....because if it is i will be pissed.

I do not have Midi ports on my sound card....does this mean i cant use my j-station on my pc or does it just mean i cant use my jedit software???If i just cant use the J-edit software what does that mean...i have no effects? please tell me i'm wrong...tell me im a dumb stupid newbie who has no reason to be pissed at my new beauty. Thanx for any help with anything....
 
It just means you can't edit with the software. I would assume it's like the POD and the software gives you a lot more flexibility for choosing combinations of amps/cabs and finer control over effects parameter. It's also cool for backing up your patches.

thanx for the info....but if i had a midi input/output where would it be on the soundcard...or is it not on the soundcard. Is there anyway i can install one???? Thanx for anymore info!
 
if you have a soundblaster type card, you can get midi by going into the joystick port with a special cable

you can get them cheaper but this is a decent picture....basically, you plug one end into the joystick port and then the two midi connectors into the J-Station.....

btw, J-Edit is awesome and there are some pretty damn good patches you can download for preset sounds....ill hook you up with some links if you get it going.....

what soundcard do you have?....
 
and if your card doesnt have midi, you can get midi devices that are USB......

without J-Edit, you still have effects and everything...it will just be a pain in the butt tweaking them with the onboard controls....its SOOOO easy doing it with J-Edit....

I have the m-audio dio 24/48...as i have read there is nothing about midi on that card. So if i want i can use the usb port i have to do midi in and out? Can u tell me what to get and does it actually work? Thanx again!
 
If your motherboard has onboard sound (most do), check for a 15-pin joystick port. Most times you can go into the BIOS and enable the joystick port without having to enable the sound. Then you can get one of those joystick-to-MIDI adapters (usually for $20, they should sell them at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. as well as music stores). Then under Sounds and Multimedia in the Control Panel, select the joystick port as the MIDI music playback device ("MPU-401" I think). The J-Edit software should automatically detect the unit
 
No, the other sound cards i have also have no midi....theyre just cheaper than the dio. I will look into both my options with the mother board and the usb. Does anyone know what one works best?
 
if they are cheaper than the dio, they just may have midi....all you all looking for is a joystick port.......
 
The sound cards i have do have a joystick port but instead of trying to do the hassle of having two soundcards in one could i buy the adapter for the mother board..because my motherboard has the joystick outlet. This would work right? or would it be better if i had two soundcards in one system?
 
it would be no problem at all using the second card's joystick port for midi only....i do it myself as I have a Delta Audiophile soundcard, but i use the midi in/out for my keyboard....so i use the other card mostly for J-Edit......
 
I have a monster sound card....it has the joystick port...so i will get an adapter but i am curious....are there any conflicts with using two cards....because i want the dio to record with spdif and i want the other to just do the midi. That is possible right? will i loose quality in doing this? also i record in acid pro 3.0 and was wondering do i need the j-edit software open inorder to use the station or do i just have to use j-edit to edit the presets...save them...and then close it out. Thanx for any help!
 
yes thats possibel....absolutely NO quality will be loss....you should be able to leave it open........
 
Go into your BIOS setup program (usually by hitting F1 or DEL when you first turn on your computer - the screen will tell you). It depends on your motherboard but on most newer ones, you can open the joystick port without turning on the whole onboard sound (which may cause conflicts).

If that doesn't work, plugging in a second sound card will work. The reason I would try the onboard first is that you have the option of turning everything else off except the MIDI, whereas with the 2nd card you can't do it from the BIOS.
