Anyone tried both the C1 and B1, is there a big difference in vocal sound quality

Never used a B1 but I returned a B3 and traded up to a C1. I found the proximity effect not to my liking on the B3, tended to muddy up my voice.
C1 much better for my situation, sounds good with no eq, B3 needed lots of work just to begin tracking, again I am only relating how this worked in MY situation, with MY voice, etc.------------

I know nothing about the B1.....

The C1 however, is quite a decent mic -- works excellently on some vocalists.... and typical of all microphones - not great on others!

You need to have several different mics at your disposal to cover a majority of applications -- a single mic can't do everything.........

I've never used C1 or B1, but I'm currently using C3 for about half of my cuts, with the rest split between AKG Solid Tube and Oktava MK319. The C3 is real accurate, and maybe just a tad noisy. It's my favorite for classic folk music and ballads. I tend to choose the other mics for blues/rock or anything where I'm going to growl a little. I don't think C3 (or C1 by implication) is the mic I would choose for a screamer or a gravely blues singer. It's what I pull out for a "pretty" singer. I'd use it on Dolly Parton, not Janice Joplin.-Richie

the c-1 is great on gravely voiced blues singers when you run it through a joe meek and tweak the compresser and eq.

im a gravely voiced blues singer and i have gotten good results out of the c-1 and the vc6q

I've had my B1 for about a month now. Pretty nice mic. I'm not too familiar with other mics to make an experienced comparison.

I'd post a link to some recordings I've made with the B1, but Yahoo! won't allow a "public" folder to upload and share files anymore.

Maybe I'll upload it to my iTools folder from my Mac.

I saw a C1 at the store I bought the B1 from. I never really thought about how freakin' big those mics are till I saw one :)

Jimistone, thank's for the viewpoint! Actually, I do run it through Joemeek twinQcs, but I'm doing dry guide tracks, and EQ and compression are things I don't want to use at all. I need to get the sound as close to right as possible without EQ, so a mixing engineer won't kill me. Everybody's voice is different, and fitting mics to voices is like fitting a dress to a woman. One thing I'm pretty sure about, is that the C3 at least is a cheap mic that's good for a lot of stuff. Keep growling into that C1.-Richie
