I am a guitarist who is trying to develop reasonable mixing skills. I am working on a cd. I want to make somewhat decent mixes on my own and then ultimately pay a pro to do it right. Here are a couple guitar instrumentals that I wrote. The thing that I always have trouble with are:

1) relative levels of drums, bass, rhythm, lead
2) muddiness
3) bass, kick and rhythm guitar working well together

Here are the links:

no pro but...

I'm no pro (my newbie rating will testify) but when playing your mixes I'm getting all your bass on my sub-woofer. It seems eq'd way too low. Could be your source of muddiness....and being a guitarist you're probably more biased to the guitar sounds and raising the guitar levels too much, especially the backing riffs. My audio recording tutor rapped me for just the same reason when he heard a mix of mine, probably coz I'm a guitarist too... :D

bhuether, welcome to HR! We got a whole "room" for this, go to the MP3 mixing clinic, it is just for this purpose. Post there, Cheers.
