I was wondering if Digibid is a safe way to go. I am about to send a guy a money order for a bid I won.

Has anyone been screwed by these guys before?

Thanks much.

I used them a few years ago to sell a bunch of gear and had good results. DigiBid is a real company, not a fly by night, and I'm sure you can trust them. Of course, if you pay with a credit card you are even better protected.

I find ebay to be more in favor of the buyer on average. Do you think digibid tends to be more in favor of the seller or buyer on average?

Hey Ethan - Read the small print on the back of your credit card statement. In the past year or so I've seen statements added that restrict your 45 day (or whatever) protection to 100 miles from your address. Of course fraud or unauthorized charges are a totally different thing.

I had an ebay deal go bad. Dude took my $600 and ran. I filed with the Internet Fraud thingy-ma-bob and contacted my credit card company (I paid via PayPal using my credit card). See I made my purchase in good faith and the dude obviously intended to defraud me. His email account quickly dried up and after I talked to him on the phone once, the next time I called the phone was disconnected. It took them like 3 months to sort it all out, but I got my money back! The dude got kicked off of ebay and I'm not sure what the Feds did with him...hopefully something atrocious.

Just my experience. YMMV.

i have purchased a bunch of stuff from digibid.

almost always at a price way below ebay. it is a different marketplace, and there seems to be certain things that go for pretty cheap there.

i have had no problems (or at least nothing worse that what normally happens when you buy from a stranger). plus there is a return period... so you have some extra protection.

Digibid Ripped Me Off

I have been waiting for a $400 payment for over a year.

I had no problem with them for about a year before this happened.

I called them for about 2 months (don't bother emailing them as I NEVER received one response) and they kept saying that it will be in the mail in a few weeks. Weell, about 3 months later I got a letter in the mail from the president who said that they were in financial trouble and that they were going to initiate a Paypal payment plan to avoid problems like this again. Why they didn't tell me this for the last 3 months I was waiting I don't know.
The letter also stated that no matter what I would get paid no later than March 30th. GREAT! 6 months away. So I waited and to my surprise they did not pay me.

I called again and actually talked with the president and he said they were in the process of refinancing and that once that goes through I will get paid in FULL. He also said that they decided not to file for bankruptcy as he wanted to follow through with his promise to pay up. In the meantime he would send me partial payments (which I have yet to receive). OK I called again and they said the the refinancing was going through soon.

ANYWAY, I am gonna wait till the end of the month to call again.

Unfortunately there really is not anything to do about it. The staff is nice if you are and are fairly sympathetic. I just hope that they do not cancel there phone lines as after that I will have NO WAY to contact them. I would consider small claims court but am not sure that it is worth $400.

They have implemented a new payment system that supposedly will help. But I am still out $400 so you may want to hold back until I confirm payment from them

Digibid Ripped Me Off

I sold some gear that they have yet to give me a check for. I think that they ran out of money unfortunately right after my item was bought by someone. Up until that point they had some trouble paying me on time.

I'm sorry I've never used digibid. All transactions are done through digibid? I thought it was like in ebay in that you can use whatever payment method you'd like.

yes, digibid is like ebay except is mainly musical items.
i bought a delta 1010 from a digibid auction. it was sent to me, but the box was all banged up and it must have been some sort of returned item or something. very bad packing and i was needless to say, not happy about purchasing such a delicate sound card in such a crappy looking box.
but i was able to send it back and get a replacement. i guess the same type of thing can happen using ebay and even from the local store.
thats my only experience with digibid. i find that most of the auctions im looking for on digibid are closed and i usually find my items on ebay.
basically- i have no use for digibid.

Kielson,

Digibid used to act as the middle man money-wise. they would collect from the auction winner, let him check out the equipment for a warranty period of 2 weeks and if there were no problems Digibid would then send the money to me (minus their 7%...I see it is now 10%!). Now I think they are no longer middlemen so they don't ever handle the money which is good. Unfortunately the situation put such a bad taste in my mouth that I will never use their services again.

yes, thats what it was. they were middlemen. i couldnt quite remember. thanks for refreshing my memory.
but like i said in my last post, im not really big fan of digibid.

that stinks I'd rather stick to ebay which allows any payment method. Most items I sell on ebay people purchase with paypal accounts. I think paypal is great. The money can go direct to my bank account.
