does anyone use anything from vox? and anything i should know about them, orrrrr any recommendations?

Iv'e had 2 Vox amps and one Vox Phantom bass. The bass was made in Italy and was playable and sounded OK but not in the same class as Fender Precision. The amps, one was a solid state and I got rid of it, swapped it for something with more grunt. The other was an AC 30 Top Boost. It was very good but I traded it in on a Fender Twin and have never regretted it, I prefer Fender. But the Vox are OK.
Back in the 60's they had a bad repuytation for not travelling well and in the grtoup I was in the bass player had one and he had a few problems.
I don't know if they still have that, I doubt it, they must have fixed that by now.

oh awesome! thanks for replying!

The sounds always were awsome.

I toured for a short time with a 63 AC30. It sounded great, but needed alot of work and I needed reliability. Great amps, though, if you can keep up with service. The easy answer is to buy a newer one. I haven't played one of the new CC amps yet, but I really want to.

I also own a Valvetronix AD120. It's a great amp in its own right. It replaced several other amps to me. A very versatile thing to have around, especially for someone like me who travels so much and needs more tones than one single conventional amplifier can dish out.

any recommendations on like a normal just distortion and clean vox amp that would be loud enough to gig? or capabilities with a cab to gig?

I used to have a Vox (sorry I can't recall the model) 100 watt, it was the cleanest amp I ever owned, I mean like almost no distortion even at high volume.

I still have a Vox Super Beatle in storage. Very large and heavy and very loud.

I snagged me a Pathfinder 15R, and while some people complain about the distortion, its a solid state amp, what do you expect? It's got great clean tones though, and the reverb and included trem are pretty sweet. I'd def. reccomend one for solitary practice, for it is only a 1x8. I really think vox should have made it in a 1x12 cab because that fucker is loud! Great for ska and reggae.

Cranked AC50 with a gibson 2 vol 2 tone pickup array, or quieter AC50 with a fuzz/ OD/ dist pedal.

People have been touring and recording with AC-30's since the early 60's non stop. 30 watts of class A tube power is loud enough for anything you can think of.

Look at the new AC30 Custom Classics. You can find them at most online big retailers like musiciansfriend and American Musical.
