snake: man, that was freaking great.

Insight: you kinda sound like the singer from the dead kennedys. this is, strangely enough, a really good thing.

HAHA! Snakedog, you kill me man...That's too cool. QUite the imagination, makes me sound like "Mr. Conventional"...And SIATZU is right. Now that he mentions it, mine does sound like "Eye of the Tiger"....that's not a good thing.

The funny thing is, folks, Snakedog is such an Alien FreakDog that there are actually NO effects on his voice at all here. That's how he sounds.

Haha, thanks man! I guess you can say that you're good at being good and I'm good at being bad :D

Yeah guys, listen to Rami about my voice, he knows. I gotta get back to my homeworld sometime though and pick up some "human" sounding plugins :D :D I'll fit in a little more around here.

Dogman, you have a good point. Not only am I building a large collection of weird plugins, but I'm getting more and more okay with actually using them in songs. Maybe I am transforming. This is scary. Everything I used to write was called beachy or oceanlike, now it's turning more and more outer spacey.

I gotta check out the rest of these versions soon too :D

Wow...insight, ocnor and shiatzu...all cool versions. Man, I got to go work on this now, just to see what happens... :D

Ocnor - Cool cool cool. Love the sound of the choruses! Gives me a classic rock type vibe.

Shiatzu - Man, freaky chorus!! Very nice. Love the sound of the bridge too.

Insight - These are all so cool, all so different. Dig your singing style. I like :D

Very cool everyone, this is fun stuff!

You should of heard me singing this a few octaves lower on the first take. It sounded like a herd of hippos in a mire when I tried to go lower.

Not my style of singing, but hey, why not go for it.

Ok, my humble stab at this. This is pretty dry, and just one vocal.

Blasphemy

Dogman, where's the flange? (just kidding) Man, your dogman style vocals fit this song great! Excellent job man, enjoyed it.

Is LightningMP3 down??? I couldn't get Ocnor's or Insight's to play or download. Dogman's either. Shiatzu's took me to a strange place with no music. I'm lost I tell you.

weird... i just checked my link and it seems to be working.. my thecollectorsedition folder in thegco.com is just my file-posting space, there's no real website there; that might explain its' vast empiness.

edit: i think i'm going to redo the verses, i'm not happy at all with the "persona" i chose for it.

Nah, I'm sure it's on my end. It would too much of a co-incidence that nobody's link works. I'm intalling something now, so I can't shut down. But I'm sure it will be fine once I re-start.

OK, I'm up and running...Listening to INSIGHT's version...It's so cool to hear people's different takes on the same tune. Cool take on this, I dig the accent. and the lyrics. Too cool.

Ocnor...I LOVE what you did in the chorus. Waiting before coming in, and then you made it resolve perfectly. That's good songwriting...Nice bridge too. Love it.

Some classic DOG!!! I'm getting to like that sound and you are developing your own vocal sound, that's for sure. I love the lyrics. Cool woofage, Dogman.

SHIATZU...I was going to say that your lyrics sound so much like Dogman's until I relaized that PURGE provided the lyrics that I didn't use and you guys did...Another GREAT chorus. Very suited to the feel and mood of the song. Great job...I like the talking in the chorus, too.

This is really cool to listen to. Everyone's take on this was really interesting to listen to. Fun stuff.

Thanks, Rami. Got to say, wish I could sing about 10% as well as you.....Then I might be able to carry a tune at least. :D

Holy shit, I'm having a blast listening to these! Sorry it took an extra day to get over here.

Insight: you do sound like Jello Biafra! Cool take on the lyric timing issues...hadn't even thought of doing it that way. I'm diggin' it!

Ocnor: BADASS. Great rewrite of the lyrics and a great solid approach to the song. I loved the hell out of what you did with this. You had a really cool Geoff Tate thing going there and it worked perfectly.

Dogman: See, that's what I was thinking too--go with the low octave on the vocals during those verses. I couldn't get it right, but hearing the growls made me realize that I was definitely missing that. Probably because I had forgotten how a good bark can hide a missed note! Thanks for doing this, bro.

Shiatzu: That chorus smoked!! I was completely blown away by what you threw in there. I wish I had thought of it...that was far better than anything I ever heard in my head.

I'm thinking that Ocnor's is the coolest and most cohesive overall shot at the tune, but Shiatzu...that chorus was just too fucking cool for words. Huge thanks to everyone who's given this a try so far. Can't wait to hear the rest of you guys. I might even throw a take of my own up there, just so everyone can know where the bottom of the scale really is!

if you're ever recording the song for real feel free to use my chorus vocal idea..
i distorted all to hell the main screamy vocal
low oooohhh vocal, at the bottom of my range dead centre pan
panned left and right oooohh vocals w. simple harmony
i don't need any credit or anything. the verses really bug me though; i must retrack the verses.

edit: oh, and thanks for the compliment!

Not that my opinion matters, but I thought this was such a cool idea that I listened to each version a few times. So this is my take on it:

Snakedog: Most original...You're a pretty twisted fucker.

Dogman: Most distinctive: I could hear your version on the radio in Russia and I'd say "Hey! That's Dogman".

INSIGHTSOUND: Most personality in the vocal track. You came off like you've been singing this tune for years.

SHIATZU: Best chorus, which is really the only part anyone remembers in a song anyway. Serious 'tude in that chorus. Awesome.

OCNOR: Best overall performance. You have a great voice, great melody, and great performance. Overall close to perfect.

I hope I didn't forget anyone, I did this off the top of my head. If I forgot anyone, it's not because it wasn't good, it's because pot is really cheap and good up here in Montreal. Not to mention the fact that 10 year olds sell tequila at kool-aid stands.
