My view is this: I have a POD 2.0 and Mesa/Boogie Triaxis + Simulclass 2:90.

The boogie sounds awesome buts needs a *good* mic to record it properly in a *good* room with *good* mic placement. This is an incredibly difficult job to get the perfect tone.

Also - what style of metal? I play death/thrash detuned to C# and need a big fat Carcass/Cannibal Corpse sound and my POD does an awesome job of it. I also used it lie direct into the PA for the first time last night and it sounded incredible.

Get the POD and spend a good time playing with it and using toneTransfer patches from the Line6 site and you will get an awesome tone. It beats my boogie for recording at the moment.

Detune that shit (lol) i tune to Bflat. I hear ya jonobacon, i have a mesa recto and mic placement is very important for "me" to get a good sound. The room i record my amp in is 7.5 x 8 foot room.

I got me a ROD XL between me legs! :p

Oops, did I say XL?...

Yeah I meant XL, they only sell em to PRO's like me, they're better than the XT... they go to 11.... :p:D

PS... I'll bet all the guys like your ROD XL... :D :D :D

I love my Line 6 Products, Pod 2.0, BASS POD, Flextone II HD, Line 6 4x12 Slant Cabinet, Floorboard. I direct record with them all the Time. I also Mic my HD & 4x12 Cab, That Amp is the best sounding Amp i have ever heard, anyone who comes to my studio is usually blown away by the tones I have created with the AMP and the Power of the AMP. Not knocking Mesa Boggie or Marshall Amps they are great to but don't provide the tonal flexibility my Line 6 products do in the studio. You do need to spend some time learning how to program it though, the presets are fair at best, don't be afraid to turn the knobs and watch the smile start to creep all over your face. The possibilities continue to amaze me.

Does anyone record with this thing thats not into all distortion and maybe do some cleaner blues or clean runs we can hear a sample of?
Not really into clean blues, and I don't do ripping clean runs... but I have squeezed some nice clean sounds out of my Pod xt.

Check out:

(two different sounds in this sample, second one starts at around 0:55)
