I've been hearing good things about the KelAudio HM-1 (SD) and its new LD cousin. Just wondering if anyone here has used one of these low-cost mics, with their advertisement of "fat tone"? My search in our forum turned up almost nothing.

I got a matched pair of the HM-1's in Dec when they had them for $69.00 each.. I tried them as drum O/H and room mics. They have a warm sound kind of like my GT-55 or Oktava 219. For $140.00 shipped I think it was a great deal.

PS.. They do not sound like the GT-55 or the 219. They just do not have the hyped hi end.

I just got my HM-4 the other day, so I haven't been able to fully test it out yet.
So far, it's exactly what is advertised. It's tight, punchy and relatively neutral sounding, and it definately suits my voice which typically sounds thin though other budget LDCs. I was also pleasantly suprised by the solid build quality of both the mic and the shockmount (for some reason I was expecting it to look and feel flimsy). I also noticed that against my SP B1 and AT4050 it didn't pick up half as much room noise. So I'm definately satisfied with my purchase thus far. :)

I like my HM-1.... Should have bought 2... :(

I have a matched pair I have perminantly set up on my drumset. I like them very well on my kit over the sm57 / Oktava set up I was using. It tames the sizzle of my cymbals while bringing out the toms.
Well worth the price to me. I have not tried it on amps yet.Did not work on acoustic guitar or vocals (for me).

Sorry, folks... I just realized that I should have posted this question in the mic forum. I'd move it if I could. Thanks for not jumping all over me about it.

Hmm, these have me quite interested. According to the description of the drum clip, it looks like they might be working on some dynamic mics too. Sounded pretty nice.

Hm-1 is cool looking, I dig the all black look.

I have a matched pair of the hm1's. I love them for overheads. I have been recording a bluegrass group over the last month, and I really don't know what I would have done with out them! They are are detailed, but are not hyped. They work on some guitars, great on mandolins, etc.

These are not vocal mics (though they are not horable for this) but for instruments, percussion, etc., they out perform their price range by a large amout.

For a bright instrument mic every one knows that mxl 603s outperform their price point, and for neutral to dark the hm1s do the same (only alittle more IMHO)
