It's an old JHS. But which model, and is it solid state or tube?

Help me exploit somebody else's ignorance for the greater good of ME. :D

Well, there's my igonorance of what it is, and the sellers.

For all I know he's selling a tube amp for eighty quid. If so, me want.

doesn't look like tube, no stand by

Old Fender Princetons and Champs didn't have standby switches. I think the fact that it is a solid back would mean it would have to be transistor. Tubes would need some kind of ventilation/air flow...I think.............

That's why he's selling it. It keeps catching on fire.

Ewwww, you said the P-word.
Worse yet, I actually OWN one! And not only do I own a Classic 30, I also own a Peavey 112E extension cabinet .

For all the crap people give Peavey, they really do make some very useful amps once you work on them just a little. Yeah my C30 sounded like crap when it was stock, but now it has a full complement of JJ Tesla tubes, both it and the extension have real, made-in-England Celestion Greenbacks, and the extension is set up as closed back (can be either). Damn this thing sounds good! Excellent jazz, blues, or classic rock tones, and it sounds great with every guitar I've stuck in front of it so far.

Also don't forget the 5150's and now the Triple X series. Among those who actually play Peaveys regularly (not those who just berate them after a 5 minute playing experience in the store), the Triple X is considered to be an extremely versatile amp, with excellent tone both clean and distorted. And if I remember correctly EVH played a 5150...I guess EVH liked crap...

:D

Probably getting way off track, but I like Peavey equipment as well. I think they make some of the best small SR systems for acoustic ensembles on the market. Of course I can remember back in the days when the only choices for SR systems were Peavey or Kustom. Let's not hazard how many centuries ago that was!

Don't have a clue on the amp but, I'm very happy with the Peavey P.A. System I have. It rocks..........

wow this thread is off track but i thought i'd add that while i don't love peavey sound, they definitely make some beastly durable stuff
