Just wondering if you guys think the stock tubes are OK, ot if there's an upgrade that just WOWed you?

Phil, is this for primarily personal use, or to record various and sundry vocalists?
Don't (yet) own a 610, but even the stock tube wowed me when trying SM57>610.
But the Shure Unidyne III coloration + 610 coloration/thickness works A-1 on me.
YMMV. At least as well as SM7>Avalon 737, for example.

It will be both, personally and on other vocalists. I've heard amazing things about it, but wasn't sure if everything stock was newer Russian tubes of if any NOS tubes would make an improvement.

I have a Solo 610 - the stock tubes are great. I get a big sound, bigger than my other preamps (Sytek 4Aii, Grace m101).
