Hopefully you guys will enjoy them as much as i do.

Hi there, yeah I love classical music!

I would say the pieces are crying out for real instruments. For me the artificial sounds detracted from the composition and I found it hard to focus on the actual music.

Quite Tippett-ian in terms of musical language (string qtet 1st mvment) but the themes didn't seem to develop fluently. I dunno, just seemed very disjointed and by the end of it I wasn't entirely sure what you were trying to achieve. It was hard to discern an original style.

I don't mean that to sound harsh. It's just that I love Tippett's string quartets so I suppose I am comparing yours to his which perhaps is unfair!

Hey, what do I know anyway! Just an opinion after all and music is soooo subjective :)

Good luck!

No way man. I appreciate your feedback!

I have learned alot since i started putting my music out in front of thousands of people worldwide. Every comment makes me work harder and more driven to reach my goals.

Ive also learned that different people hear different things in each piece. In just the last week various people have compared my work to Ravel, Satie, Schoenberg, Bartok, Copland, etc.

I really do believe that the power of music lies in the listeners mind. Thank you for listening.

Jason - King in Vienna
Do yourself a favour & post the audio somewhere that has reasonmable audio. Your stuff is going out in mono & severly compressed.
I added &fmt=18 to the address & had a chance to listen in stereo which helped some but not a lot.
Use LightningMP3 or Soundclick or somewhere that has higher qual streamer options as well as download.
MP3 is bad enough without adding Utub slashes to the sound.
Now, the music: in parts epic, filmic & a bit generic in spotss the deep tymp & fanfares sound like you've used them as soundtrack devices rather than musical devices.
You do need better samples - but then again it could be UTUB.
Some fine ideas - but probably too many of them and not enough development of them.
Schoenberg is the king, but mainly on Pierrot Luniare - sometimes he scared himself.

Thank you for the comments and for listening. My name is Justin Taylor btw.

That specific composition is meant to evoke a story or be almost scenic. It is a symphonic or tone poem after all. It is based on a German epic poem entitled The Nibelungenlied (Song of the Nibelungs) and a painting showing King Etzel from hungary arriving in the city on horseback. You can find a little more info here:http://www.mythencyclopedia.com/Mi-Ni/Nibelungenlied.html

Its meant to unfold like a story or a movie. If you listen, there are many small sections and theyre all tied together and create sort of a big picture or a big story of whats going on.

As far as the audio, Youtube is youtube. They compress my videos to their specifications when i upload, so unfortunately we'll have to live with the crappy audio.

They are only demos afterall and a real orchestra playing the pieces would be much better and worth putting up in high quality sound.

justin,
You've explained the piece well enough.
You really ought to use something other than Utub though - it's mono & poor quality. Most posters use something better - mspace, utube & fbook have music as secondary to their prime function - don't frop the utbe stuff just post at a better place as well. I have a vid channel on utube (but I do recommend using &fmt=18), a page on mspace, fbook etc but when I want someone to LISTEN i ask them to stream or download from soundclick.
Promotion, distribution and somewhat better quality can all be had.

Some excellent suggestions. Thank you, my friend!

My name is Justin Taylor, not Jason.

Thanks for listening!

Sorry, Justin. I rely on my memory much more than I should. A word of advice: Don't ever get old.;)

Don't sweat it, though. Every time I talk to Justin Timberlake, I call him Jason. He hates it, too.

As far as your music goes, I found some of it kind of stark, without a rudder so to speak. Maybe that was your intention. If so, I applaud you for that.

One thing you might want to try is called foreshadowing. It's the same thing that is done in literature. Give the listener a taste of a theme you will return to. Then the music will feel like an old friend.

Wig:)
