Anyone know Nomad fiber cases? Or what do you reccommend?

These are available on eBay for about $150 shipped (which seems like a sweet deal to me). I'm curious how good they are.

From the looks of them they should be better then cordura "Bags", but not as rugged as SKBs. I've seen some old-school fiber cases that held up pretty well. Anyone use, or experience these Nomads?

Any commentary/oppinion on Fiber vs. Plastic drum cases?

I threw down $1300 on a gorgeous 6 pc set of Birdseye maple, rims-mount, sonors with my last bonus (it is the kit of my wet dreams). I had planned to keep the new kit at the house, and use my old Tiawan kit for gigging. But I'm totally spoiled by the new kit now, so I'm planning on hauling the Sonors to gigs. The Sonors will never leave without cases though, whereas the cheapy kit didn't really require them. I can maybe scrape $200 together from selling the old shells with some hardware I've outgrown.

I plan on having the kit forever, so even though I don't have the money for it, I may just finance some super hardcore cases that will never fail, to protect my investment on this kit that I could probably never find orphan replacements for if something happens to one of them.

i've never tried fiber cases but i can empathize. i recently bought the kit i always wanted also.......so i spent a bundle on some skb cases at the same time. i have not regrets but it sure was a lot of money!

Fiber Cases are.... OK.

I have a set of the Nomad cases (fiber) and they work well.
I have used them on the road now for about 2 years.

They get ugly fast, but the protect. I have a nice Mapex Maple proM kit and the only damage to them was done outside the cases.

They wont last as long as the plastic ones. If money wasn't an issue I would opt for the plastic ones.

I have a complete set of them. They're light-weight which is good, but those straps can be a pain in the ass if you're in any kind of a hurry. I'd rather have something with a flip-open style lid to save time, but hey, you get what you pay for and they DO get the job done. A word of caution, I was using a Pearl Export kit back in the day & the 22" case was barely big enough for my 22" kick because of the legs on the side. I had to literally force the thing in there. My Yamaha kick, however, fits just fine.

Thanks for all the answers so far guys.

Eric- Yeah, I'm really contemplating those SKBs or the B&H enduros, I might just try to peice a set together from ebay, and local pawn/drum shops.

Tmix- Most of the old fiber cases I've used and seen are pretty scratched up, but have held together pretty well.

Drummerbones- Thanks for the tip on the bassdrum. Mine is a 20" but it's got some really burly legs, so it might really require the 22". I'd better measure it up and figure that out before I go mailordering the wrong thing.

I saw someone on another board saying that the handle ripped out of one of thiers. Have either of you had questions about how long the handles will last on yours? Like do they seem like "if they flex the case any more they'll rip right out"?

I've still got a little time until my current project starts playing out, so I get to do a little more research, conteplation, and saving before I make a purchase.

I've had mine for 3 years, and no problems as of yet...and I don't anticipate any. These are good cases, as long as you don't mind the straps. That's the only negative thing I have to say. Plus, they're easy on your wallet....
