Ok,...

I had them originally under "electronics", but moved them to "musical instruments".
"Electronics" had everything from PS3 to Iphone, etc.
Los Angeles CL apparently won't let me put one item in multiple categories.
I'd thought of that, but I had to choose one.
Definitely, "musical instruments" will give it more visibility, as there are far fewer listings.
"Electronics" had listings in the hundreds, incl. TVs, computers and so on.

Thanks again!
:spank::eek:;)

I double checked the listings.

On CL these listings show up under "musical instruments", but by clicking the links above it seems to still say "electronics",... which is a quirk but is all good anyway.
:spank::eek:;)

Well, I just did a CL search on the LA site and using the search term, TASCAM, I got 147 hits in musical instruments and only 4 in Electronics.

Cheers! :)

Oh mos definitely G.FM the best choice is musical instruments.

Fun in the sun!

This stuff on deck...

I have a couple 388's I'd like to sell, but they have repair issues at the moment.

Beautiful gear! :)

Hope you find good homes for them, Dave. ;)

Cheers! :)

Hey Reel.
What do you think of the graphic eq.?
I have one myself but haven't gotten around to using it yet.

I'm guilty and embarrassed that

I've never used mine, either.

A graphic EQ is a handy thing for a final tweak of your 2-buss output, or to tune for a room and monitor system. I know that second subject is very controversial. I do have a BSR-EQ300 on my HUGE home stereo system, and it's quite nice & doing a good job.

The Tascam GE-20B graphic EQ is a nice quality build with some handy options, that sweet chocolate brown color,... and is graphical as the rest! Graphic EQ is a handy tool, but is more like a crowbar, as opposed to a fine tip chisel of the PE-40, 4-band/4-channel fully parametric EQ,... to be pictured in this thread ASAP/TBA.

A very valid question and thanks for asking. Just because I've not used something yet doesn't preclude me from using it at some future time, as yet TBD.
:spank::eek:;)

OT: I just had a good turn by a good dude.

Thru this effort and Craigslist, I connected up with a fine gent who for all intents and purposes seems like a younger version of myself. We talked gear, tech and music for many days before reaching terms of a deal. What started out as a PE-40 deal alone, when all was said and done was:
(2) PE-40's
(1) MX-80
(2) 388's that need repair, one a bit worse off than the other,... both very clean and partially working.
(1) extra 388 channel card, (thank you talldog!)
(4) reels of sealed/new 457 tape
(1) reel of 031 tape for test and general purposes
for a very, very appreciable and fair price. I'm so thankful and happy! Not only was he a very nice guy whom I have a lot in common with, but he was a VERY motivated buyer! He helped me when I was unsure of parts of the deal by offering a very fair price, to which in the turnaround I have no regrets. In other words, he made me an offer I could not refuse!... in the nicest of ways. I'm not divulging exact amounts, but let's say it gave me a good bump financially that helps ease the pressure for a while going forward. I'm not a desperation seller, but I have needs.

Thank you all for listening and participating on this board and others!
THANKS JOSH!

Glad to hear some good news for you there, Dave! :)

Cheers! :)

Thanks!

He even gave me gas money to drive it out to him, appx. 75 miles each way.
I needed to get out of the house anyway!
A very fair deal, indeed! Got some good cash in my pocket.
Got rid of some stuff that was weighing me down.
Freeing up space gives me more options in the studio area.
I've looked at a table top I've not seen in several years. ;)
He was happy. He'll fix what he can and resell the rest.
It's a win/win moment in life. I could use more just like it as time goes on.

Reel Person Story...

I'd dropped this on one of sweetbeats' threads, but as it's mostly off-topic there I just decided to pull it off and put it here:

[RECAP]:

I sold my M312, $250 cash/carry, a good value and the buyer was very happy! Maybe I should have held out for $300? I'd paid $500 for it originally many years ago, and took a huge loss on it just to move it onward. It was a tough decision, but seems to have worked out well. ;)

I sold 3 of my 4 388s: Sold one previously in 2011 in perfect working order; more recently sold one that had a bad Channel 1 preamp and ultimately just needed the card reseated & was fixed by the buyer,... (anyway I should have caught that); and one that has some sort of power rectifier issue caus it flickers the LED but otherwise seems to work ok (needs bench tech). I got good money ($420) for the first one, (in 2011). I threw in a new reel of 457 and a head demag wand, so was an outstanding deal for the buyer. The 2 other 388s I sold (both) for $600 (inclusive) so was not top dollar but I didn't shed too many tears over it. I needed to move some fixit gear off my table. I still have one 388 in good condition for personal use.

OT: I have another M520 I'm trying to sell that's missing the wooden side panels and rubber feet, plus needs a #1 Pan pot replaced, that was discovered as defective upon testing for sale. I've gotten the part, and have yet to replace it. I also now have an M30 with 3 different problems on 3 different cards, awaiting disposition ATM but my original intent is to fix it DIY style. I've sold all my other (3) working M30s and without one on hand I kinda feel naked. I have a very clean M35 that awaits replacement of the #1 VU meter, part in hand. It's possible after replacing the M35 meter I'll hang onto it for personal use, vs originally when I discovered the problem it was up for sale. I think there's a tipping or break even point when you're working on gear, as to how much parts expense and effort is put in vs how much you can get in resale. On the downside, I believe after all this selling and testing, that I bought some gear that had problems passed onto me undisclosed by previous sellers, that I didn't catch at first. I'll fix stuff & sell it or hang on to it, but I won't sell a piece of gear with known problems, unless the buyer is fully aware he's buying a fixer. I wasn't always given the same courtesty.

OT: I've sold 2 Fostex Model 80s, both in top condition, as I went thoroughly thru alignments for one & sold the other working as-is. I've also sold a Fostex Model 20, did alignments on that one too. I aligned and sold my Tascam 32. That one was very hard to let go, the buyer was determined to have the Tascam 32 vs the Fostex E2 I was trying to sell instead. He'd previously bought one of my M520's and he wanted to stay all Tascam in his recording chain, which is understandable. I miss the 32, (it looked and worked great & sounded phenomenal). About 20 minutes after the guy left, I was looking at the E2 manual & realized I'd mistakenly aligned the 32 for 0=185 (instead of the spec 250)! I texted him that I could quickly correct it if he'd drive it back, but he declined. I explained that his new 0Vu would actually be +3Vu on the meter for 456, and he could dance the needle in the red comfortably with no issue, peak over the red with 3dB headroom beyond +3 on the meter, & that to get to MOL on the tape he'd have to hit the needle on the right side of the meter. He seemed to be jazzed about that, actually, and I shortly rationalized to see it as a "feature" more than a flaw. In some strange way, riding the needles in the red all day sounds adventurous and exciting! I think it's easy to dance in the red a lot and not hit the right side of the meter, so all's good. He could have it properly reset by me or another tech anytime if he had a problem with it. He was agreeable enough to just make note of the level difference and carry on! I had momentarily forgotten my cal tape is 185, not 250, a really basic thing at the outset. Maybe worth mentioning but not a huge deal in the big scheme of things, just to remember the spec and compensate & not repeat a really blatant gaff.

OT: I've sold a boatload of Tascam rackmount gear, incl. MX-80s, PE-40s, RS-20, MH-40, M-1B. The rackmount stuff sold like hotcakes!

OT: I recently sold the NOS 14" reel of 2" BASF 468, an outstanding deal for $60. The buyer was very happy, as was I. I'd given up my dream long ago about getting a 2" recorder, so all's well that ends well. I have yet to sell some of my gently used 996/1".

OT: I have a 38 that took a pretty good beating in shipping, but tho the chassis is pretty much toast, there's a wealth of parts in there including a pretty nice headstack, not to mention I got it working anyway. I've not yet decided to part anything out, but I'll be putting more working gear up on CL soon. There's some good deals still to come for locals here in the LA & surrounding areas.

Sorry if this post is redundant of any previous posts.

A Technical Aside,...

for those who are still reading:....

I opened another thread about the dubious information in the Fostex Model 20 manual about setting calibration levels. Well, I got through that by deciding on a "G320" calibration, which IIRC is about 280nWb/m reference,... just enough to ride 457 tape a little hot, but not too hot. The manual stated "514nWb/m" reference, which I found highly unusual and not too practical except for using the highest output tapes, 499/GP9/996/SM900, for mastering, which in itself is a little impractical. The body of the manual text said to use 457 or 3M 227 tape for mastering, which didn't jive in my head about using 514nWb/m reference. In fact that conflicting info clashed quite hard in my mind. I thought long and hard about how to align this machine, and just decided "G320" was more practical, was compatible with 457 & also matched the cal's of the Model 80. I hardly ever freestyle it outside the parameters in the book, but this time I did.

However, the technical part I'm posting about is this: as we know the Model 20 has the multi-segment LEDs for meters, but the body of the manual stated to use an "analog meter" for alignment whenever possible. The diagrams even showed the test setup with a dB meter patched inline. Some settings called for "-8" or "-4" db settings, and to complicate matters my cal tape was an old 185nWb/m reference, requiring numerical compensation to get all the levels right. From having just aligned a Model 80 previously, I'd determined that setting exact dB settings with the LEDs was approximate at best, SO I patched the outputs of the Model 20 to the "Ext In" of my Tascam M520 mixer meter bridge & used real VU meters for alignment of the Model 20. Not only was it a LOT easier, but it was WAY more accurate. LET'S hear it for meters with needles! Hurray! ;)

Not sure if anyone would find this anecdote interesting, but there it is. At least I was happy that the M20 was properly calibrated for the buyer, and he in turn was very happy too. In retraospect, I probably should have used the M520 VU meters for alignment of the Model 80s, too, but I managed to get thru it okay without.

Not sure if I put all the relevant pictures up on this thread, but I'll do so when I get another minute on the turnaround.

:spank::eek:;)
