Great White North Girl
i think i may have accidentally ripped off the riff off an AD/DC tune and made a song out of it. i can't remember the song and i have looked and haven't heard anything like this from them, but i have the nagging feeling that won't go away. has anyone heard this riff before?

well, i still woudlnt' want to copy a main riff like that if it was already done by a band as popular as AC/DC.

Doesn't sound like anything specific, but it does have a familiar, Van Halenesque vibe to it. Let it ride.

Sounds like the same or similar chords to Panama by Van Halen but the actual riff doesn't really resemble it much.

Doesn't sound like anything I've heard before.

Sweet Chord pattern - doesn't sound like anything I've heard before. Run with it....:D

thanks guys. never thought it sounded like van halen but i can see why you'd think so i think.

and the song around this riff is already written. i'm just waiting for an opportunity to record my sister singing it :)

i'm hoping some AC/DC fans will chime in :)

I did, and I still don't recognize it as an AC/DC riff. Quit worrying and finish the song, dammit! :p :)

And even if it is, as Igor Stravinsky once said, "A lesser artist borrows; a great artist steals." ;)

Hehe, that just goes to show, people will decide "that sounds like _____"

...and "____" is usually someone you never expected. :)

I always feel like I'm "stealing" something when I listen to my stuff but I don't tell anyone who I think I'm stealing from and they usually think differently about it that I do. I think we all get so caught up in our songs that it gets harder to stand back and listen to them objectively.

thanks for the feedback :)

van halen was the first thing I thought when I heard it, but that doesnt mean that its exact.

Can't tell yet

If it sounds like something else, but doesn't sound like something else, your on the right track. Can't really tell until you put a beat, bass and vox on it. You'll probably need more chords than that for a song. Everythings been done before, but try this, do familiar progressions, but from different songs and arrange them in one song. Familiar progressions can often give you a "hook". Zep was famous for that, listen to a song like "In the Light" or "How Many More Times" or, well all of them I guess. That's my 2 cent spiel on songwriting.

Im a big AC/DC fan, all thier stuff. Thats not one of thiers.
