Dave, the guy who makes these mics will be trying a new capsule soon (made in USA I think) and altering the mic to switch between omni and cardoid! The name and price will remain the same!
There may also be another, larger capsule available in the future?
I contacted Dave Pearlman with a few questions and here is the reply:
Kane,
The $800 model has been discontinued due to rising costs and body changes. I have switched to the 34mm capsule and people have differing opinions as to whether or not the 32mm has a lower end on it. I'm using a long body now and I'm switching over to a Cinemag transformer which has been modeled after a Neumann BV8 from 1960 so I'm having to charge at least $1200 for the mic now. The Peluso Mic selling for the $1050 is not using the Telefunken EF14 although it is a great sounding mic and for the price is an extremely great value. I'm using the capsules John makes and occasionally I use a Gefell M7 when the client asks for it. I can also obtain old reskinned M7 capsules here in the US for around $500. At this moment the power supply is only wired for the US. John's mics have a power supply which I believe can be switched and they come from China (the power supplies). He and I are pals and talk everyday so if you have any questions for either of us please let me know. Dave Pearlman
