Extremely nice live vocal mic... I love it on a snare in the studio sometimes too.

The Beta 87 is a great mic, I used one for recording vocals while I was in school. I would suggest getting a Rode NT-1. A new NT-1 new cost $200, were the Beta 87 is around $250; therfore, I would think the Rode would be cheaper when bought used. Either way you will need to have phantom power.

I got quite a lot of sm87 betas, nice mics, nice sound. i do'nt use them too much, but i have used them once or twice, quite happy with them.

just to agree with "Recordinf Enginner" - it's great on a snare, and then heavily compressed!hehe....mmm, the joys of compression......
