Er... no.... and based on the bullshit website ad, I wouldn't want to.......

And there's nothing even remotely "studio" about them...!

?? Cone tweeters?

?? Individual volume controls for mid/high??

?? 12" Woofers???

Looks like replacement speakers for a boom box.

ugh...

i've seen a few different studio's whether being in them or seeing them on tv, and nothing as gargantuan and ugly has ever (dis)graced the screen like this. bigger is not always better.

I don't know if you've ever seen those guys in the vans who sell speakers...The pitch is ..I've got some extra speaks I gotta get rid of..My boss says just sell em' quick....Scam!...Well these look like the speakers they sell!

From the design, it's clear they would be useless as near-field monitors. From the price, it's doubtful if they'd be much better as room monitors either.

Hhhmmm...my JBL4311's have 12" woofers, and indiv. vol. controls for the mids and highs... and are probably one of the most kick ass speakers of the 70's/80's...(read, best sounding and most ubiquitous)

no cone tweets though:p

Your JBL's probably cost a bit more than $200 for the pair though.

A pair of 12" three-ways that can only manage 92db and have 5/8" MDF cabs wouldn't even make it as garage speakers for that price IMHO. :p

they might have some ok bass, but you shouldn't mix on them... mixing and mastering...you need near feilds... like those rockets you were looking at.. just stick with the 20/20's and hafler amp...

or you know you could alway mix and master over here...

Oh My God Buffy...Did You See Those Speakers? They Were Like The Crappiest Speakers I've Ever Seen...I Wouldnt even Listen To Music On Them...

I'm with Don...

Those look exactly like the crap speakers the guys in the white vans sell.

DO NOT BUY THOSE "MONITORS"

I'm not, I was just curious of what ppl were mixing on, I'm contemplating between the Event 20/20 and KRK Rokits, Bruce I know you like your V8's, would choose the KRK Rokit 6in over the Event 20/20 8in for a hip hop studio?

Queue's got it. Ha! Yeah, these are word famous alright!

Let me guess how you heard about them?

You just got out of your car in the shopping mall parking lot and two guys drive up in a van and say:

“Hey, do you want to buy some really expensive speakers dirt cheap? We work for a delivery service and the warehouse made a mistake. They gave us 8 pairs of speakers when the invoice only says 4. There’s no way they can trace the mistake to us, so we figured we’ll just make some extra cash and sell them. Look at the is brochure. See, they’re the famous ‘Acoustic Monitor’ speakers and they normally go for $1000 each. What would you be willing to give us for them? We need to get rid of them quick….”

This happened to me once about 10 years ago. I must admit I was tempted… until I saw the speakers. I told a friend about it and he said he had actually worked doing this scam for a while, but quit because he felt too guilty. He said they normally try to get about $200 out of people, when in reality the speakers are cheap pieces of shit, maybe worth $50 if your lucky.

Yeah, this is an old scam. Hope you didn’t actually buy them.

Holy shit, Q! That's a riot! :D

I just assumed the "white van" reference was a general metaphor for someone selling questionable merchandise off a truck. I didn't realize it was a specific worldwide phenomenon!

Thanks for providing a great service and warning!

You are absolutely correct! I saw these guys once in Norwood Mass. What they failed to realize was that they were trying to sell their crap to employees coming out of.... Acoustic Research :)

I don't know about the toaster angle but about 8 years ago I lived in a pretty upscale neighborhood and some guy tried a scam like this on me only he was selling steaks!

He had a minitruck with a freezer in the back. As I was standing there at the end of my driveway listening to this guy's pitch all I could think was:"Do you really think I'm that f'n stupid?"
