I am thinking of getting logic and was wondering if anyone out there has used it and what you thought of it.

Okay... let me get this straight. You're asking about an Emagic product in the Cakewalk forum, right? ;)

Well, here goes.

I will never use Logic again. I rented at professional studio once (without engineer, because of the price) that used Sonar and Cubase. I can get around both of those (but Sonar is the king :)), but when I arrived they had installed a Logic machine. I couldn't even get to record 2 tracks at once. I didn't figure it out...

But of course I didn't even have the manual, that would help me. But I was paying to play around, getting the crappy sequenser to work. I was mad like hell!

God bless Sonar and it's ease of use! :)

And as you maybe don't know, Logic is a mac-only program...

i tried to start an Emagic thread but i couldn't get to.
and logic WAS a mac only program...it is now for pc as well....

tell me about sonar..... i have it but never installed it. does it have a sequencer? right now i am using the triton studio to sequence songs and once i dump the song's midi file on a floppy i insert it in CEP and from there i record whatever audio track i need to record.

i also had cubase but couldn't figure it out just like you with Logic
so i uninstalled it.

First of all, Logic was for PC and MAC, but is now a MAC only program. You have it backwards. Second, did you really spend your hard-earned money for a powerhouse program like Sonar not knowing if it even had a sequencer? Install the program and mess around with it. Sonar DOES contain a sequencer, and will likely be the only one you'll ever need.

This sounds really strange.

But it's easy to solve how to use them. Since you obviously must have bought two programs without knowing what they do, we have a sollution for you:
Read the f**king manual, and I can guarantee that you'll make it! :D

And as both me and Ed here said. Logic was a PC and Mac program, now it's Mac only, meaning you can still upgrade to version 5.5 for PC (but they don't sell it anymore). Now version 6 is released for Mac, and it never will be for PC.

Yo, brando0 :)
You stated about having many expensive software (SONAR, Cubase, Logic, CEP) without knowing their function & ability put a big question in our head... How did you get those ? FYI, this BBS gives zero tolerance for pirated / Kazza downloaded softwarez. This is respected Homerecording.com BBS, NOT Harmony Central BBS. We have different culture to post here.

Please take it easy, explain how did you get those, what's your goal, and we'll be very friendly to inform you how to work it out. And to underline what Guitar Ed said, SONAR CAN do most of your tasks alone. The difference with other softwares is SONAR does it in alot better & easier way.

i really think that it is none of your business however.....here it is just please don't assume....... that makes an asshole out of you and me.
i never said i condone who pirates software but since it seems that i have compromised myself, here is the explanation...... i get them at cost and on top of it i have a great job that pays me $$$ and so , if i am allowed i can use MY money to buy almost anything i want for my studio...like i have 4 gig of memory and 3 hard drives of 175gig each...... now since what is important to me is to have my name clean i would like you to understand that it is not good to assume.......i could be the richest guy in the world and i could buy whatever i want whether i know what it does and or how to use it. it is not my fault that you can't afford to buy whatever you please or almost. just because someone that you DON'T KNOW has something you don't it doesn't mean they stole it....does it? so please if you don't mind apologise.
cool?

No... but as I explained to you over PM:

The "Read the fucking Manual" is the test. The most stupid people actually tell us after that that they don't have the manual because they've downloaded the warez version. That's people brand nr. 1...

Brand nr 2 respond the way you did (the first PM to me).

Brand nr 3 have actually bought the software. Most of these agree, and say they will read the manual. The manual is a great way to start, and explains the basic stuff, so we don't have to type it here on the BBS...

We don't support cracked software around these forums, so that makes it our business... Sorry, but that's just the way it is. ;)

Woah, Brando0, I sense a disturbance in the Force...

Really, asking a question about a non-Cakewalk tracker in a Cakewalk forum is bound to elicit some form of gentle rib-poking. But I can see by your latest post that you've had your feathers well and truly ruffled.

Sound On Sound has a Mac Music forum and PC Music forum. Perhaps you could ask your questions over there regarding Logic.

Both Moskus and James Argo are held in high regard on the HomeRecording Bulletin Boards. They dispense very sound advice to newbies and more seasoned users with humour and generally with great patience.

Trading insults isn't really in anyone's interest.

Okay... lets calm down and work it out...

brandon0, so I assume you have legal copy of the software. And by posting here -in this Cakewalk forum- I assume you need help on working with SONAR. Good. Now, copy your pre made Triton studio .mid file into your HDD. Start SONAR, and open the midi file from SONAR.

Will SONAR open it, Jaymz ?

Yes, indeed. And offcourse, you can edit the file, and record to audio latter. You can even use DXi as alternative to gain different sound.

Then what ?

Once you open the midi file, you might need to adjust each tracks properties (Vol, Pan, Port, Channel, etc) in Track view. It's not that hard, and if you have any difficulties, you can read how to adjust them either in your manual, help section, or here in this BBS. Play the midi. You must set it right to mak sound out of your synth / MIDI devices.

And how about add audio track, Jaymz ?

Easy... Just when you don't have any problem with the midi. In track view, right click your mouse, and click add audio track. Click Arm the red indicator will lit. Ready to record audio.

Then ?

Just try those first, and comeback if you have any difficulties...

;)

And don't freak out too much Brando0, James usually talks to himself... :D

okay..... i understand where you guys are coming from.

the only reason why i wrote a thread in this forum is cuz i couldn't get to start an Emagic one.

the reasons why i haven't looked at the manuals is because i have so much stuff that lots of it i still haven't unwrapped and therefore not looked at manuals. that's why i said that i had never loaded sonar....it's still wrapped. the other reason i have a hard time reading stuff it's because i am highly dislexic, so i gotta take it easy and try to figure out things on my own for the most part.

i will be the first one to agree that trading insults is not in anyone's interest especially mine, i just felt attacked, unjustifibly accused and judged and if there's one thing i hate is injustice and prejudice so i reacted as i thought appropiate. now i realize that i might have gone a little overboard but that's just me when i feel i am being boxed. you guys where coming from all angles.

other than that i am cool.

thanks for the info on sonar..... now i will have to open it and load it.

peace

There's been request for an Emagic forum as long as I've been a member of this BBS, so I don't think it'll happen... :(

And we're cool! Just open up Sonar, install it, and we'll be happy to answer any question you have. :)

And if you find the manual to complicated, you can check out "Sonar 2 Power!" by Scott R. Garrigus (you'll find the book at amazon.com). :)
