Just got a second hand AKG C 477 WR oc (The model that comes with stripped and tinned leads).
The guy I bought it from soldered a standard XLR connector onto the mike, but when I connect it to my AKG B 18 battery power pack, then into my Motu traveler, the mike doesn't work at all.
My Audio technica ATM73a (without it's own battery) works fine through the B 18, so the cables are all fine.
Does anyone know what the c 477 wires are?
There's one thin blue, one thin brown and one thick green wire.

They are currently connected as follows to the XLR :
Blue pin 3
brown pin 2
green pin 1

I also noticed that the end of the capsule (with the cap removed) is sort of wrinkly, is this supposed to be smooth?

The thick green wire would allmost definately go to Pin 1 , sounds like a ground to me .... then that would mean the other 2 wires would go to the other 2 pins , which pins go were ?? couldn"t tell you but you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right , but here is the stumper , it sould work even if these 2 wires are on the wrong pin , worse case it would simply be out of phaze ....

Conclusion ?? i think your mic has something wrong with it other than the XLR wireing .....

I would test that you are getting phantom voltage between pins 2 and 3 referanced to pin 1 , this will tell you for sure if the green one is ground and the others are signal wires .....

Cheers

PS: Yes the Diaphram on the Capsule should be totally smooth , any wrinkleing would effect the sound .....

That also makes your Mic unballanced and a noise monster... Probably not the way it was intended to be used ....
