Any way to separate studio and main stereo outs?

I use the same monitors for both my stereo mains and my control room outs. My problem is this:

When I am in my control room, I can still here the outputs of the mains, which means when I switch to mono, or dim the control out, I still hear full volume from the mains. I have tried reading the manual, but can't find anything relative to my problem. Any ideas anybody? Thanks in advance,

control room outs go to your monitors, the main outs go to your 2 track recorder
