I walk the line
I can't find any. The 24 track machines seem to be only 16 track or less. I'm considering doing some live show recording this summer of some friends and while I could get by with 16, I'd rather not have to (I'm really lazy :o ). This would only be used for tracking.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, man.

I'll look it up. Isn't it just a recorder, though, like an ADAT, meaning I would need a separate mixer to feed it?

Btw

Happy birthday! I just started a thread for you in the cave.

Thanks bro! And yes, it's balanced +4 inputs and outputs so it needs preamps on the input side (which could be stand alone or from a mixer) and a mixer if you want to monitor what's going on in real time. Otherwise you could upload what you've tracked to a computer and mix with software.

OK, I took a brief look at it, more questions

I don't have any knowledge of the whole ADAT interface process, so what's the method and interface required to dump the tracks to pc keeping them digital? How big of a hard drive can you swap into this thing? I would need maximum recording time for live shows.

The ADAT/FST file system can support drives up to 2TB (2000 GB). Having said that, consider that an 80GB drive (available today for about $150.) holds 6 hours of 24-track audio. You can make FTP transfers through a NIC card or (as I do) go out through the Lightpipe into a MOTU to the computer. Once there any multitrack software will do the trick.

OK so your saying

that I could go throught the HD24's ethernet to a NIC and dump all 24 together right? What format does that dump them in? And what piece of MOTU gear are you referring to? I just think of them as pre/converter people. Is there a lightpipe to something converter on your MOTU, and convert to what? Firewire?
