Any special recording tricks?

Hey, i`m looking for unconventional methods of recording. My stuff is not sophisticated - mic mxl900, preamp mic100 (behringer) + stock card + adobe audition & fruity loops. Despite there are guitar, bass, vocals and percussion.
We are recording soon and i`m asking for some tricks that can diversify the work.
Guitars -> i set the microphone (i`ll try to borrow dynamic sennheiser) in front of the amp, next i build something like a tent over this things (chairs, blankets, sheets)
- to make riff more clear it occured to me to record it in pieces and finally join in adobe
- which effects am i to add? only delay or echo ? maybe you have interesting set of adding effects in adobe ?

Vocals -> generally nothing. Singer just sing to mic, in adobe i add him chorus to make it lively.

Bass -> similar like a guitar.

Drums -> it is rather impossible to record it tolerably, so i probably use fruity loops (samples), or record just pieces of drums (samples) and stick it in adobe.

Our music sounds like Audioslave or Rage Agains The Machine. If you know some useful tips and tricks plz tell me. Everything can help to make our demo better.

Plz for some ideas. I do not know, can it be recording vocals on two tracks and finally one track move about a few miliseconds in left/right speaker ?
Help me with simple useful tricks. Maybe you have good articles about it, or you know some ways of recording by famous engineers.

Yeah. . .

If I were a band with limited tools (which, no offense, sounds like you guys) I would go to a studio and have someone else take care of the recording. You still have to have a "vision" though- nobody, with the exception of a hired producer, will tell you how to make your music.

So what you're basiclly asking us is "How do you make a turd sparkle?"

What did you expect. . .a detailed description of the entire recording process?

Your ears.
Seriously.
If you dont have good ears then you probably wont get good results.

Learn with your ears, not your eyes.

Hey, are you deaf? I dont ask you for description of the whole process of recording, but interesting tricks from own experience. I use search option everytime and if it were enough i wouldn`t ask you here.
Moreover i have a little knowledge about it and i dont want to make sparkle shit. Making demo in studio is too expensive and not necessary. I have thought that here are people with interesting conceptions and ideas who can add something fresh to ordinary way of recording.
If not, so sorry, i have just asked.
 
If your pitch is off, and you get some background noise from your computer while you record yourself, don't fight it... Autotune will only make it worse... Instead do what I do... Load your vocal into a sampler, put some wild pitch LFO on it, and go nuts with filters and sh..tuff... It will sound really cool, and cover your (my that is) terrible singing... plus turn the background hum into an atmospheric woosh. Might work well with some FX that would come afterwards like flangers, phasers and whatnot.

Put a large, slow turning fan inbetween you and the mic, for some interesting modulation effects.

Use a cheap cassette recorder to record a track from your DAW... actually while recording overdrive its inputs to distort somewhat... load that recording into your DAW, and delay it compared to the original track. Record that back into the cassette recorder, and repeat... you can create a manual delay where the "taps" degrade as they die out. Can be cool sometimes.

Recording underwater!

Throw everything you own in a filled bathtub (hmmmmm....I think I've used this gag somewhere else....)

If there is a particular CD that you enjoy the production of, just stick of couple of mics in front of stereo speakers and record while you play the CD, then listen to your recording. Essentially that means you recorded that masterpiece.

Sorry, just had a Dethklok moment. I meant no smartassdom, just that this topic has been covered jillions of times on this forum, but perhaps searching is difficult due to the wide variety of titles. The best recording trick I know of is to use tape whenever you can, print everything you record good and loud but just below distortion, and use different microphones for some tracks to make sure that you don't wind up with aggregate noise. Then, brag about your skills while never posting anything for criticism, and act real pompous, and soon, you'll be just like me.
