Hi. I am using a Teac A-3340S and have the chance to buy a Teac 3440 and was wondering if there is any difference in the sound quality of the two units. i.e. - does one record better sound than the other ? I like the
3440's operation better than the 3340 but if there is no difference in sound quality I will stick with my ol' 3340.

Transport handled tape better. I think but am not certain, that the heads & electronics were improved as well.

Thanks Rick. Not sure if I will buy the unit but wanted to know if it was better.

IIRC... the only real diff is in the transport switching...

Thanks. If that is all the difference I'll just keep using my ol' 3340 as I am satisfied with it and I don't do any recording as a profession. I am learning ( should say, in the learning process ) of recording. Didn't know there was so much. Sometimes I get a headache just trying to remember all this stuff

I've had both and liked the sound of the A-3340S better and the looks of the A-3440 better. The 3440 was also easier to work on, transport is bascially the same as the 3340S, but the 3440 had better logic controls. May as well keep your machine, unless you get your hands on a Tascam 44OB. :)

Thx Master. I like my ol' 3340S and was only wondering if there was any diff. in sound qualities of the two machines. If so I was considering a 3440. As I said, I am in the learning stage of recording. Actually I'm a baby at the recording part of it all. Have to be trained in everything.

The 3440 is miles better in design and a bit better sounding. If it is in good condition snag it BUT test every function first.

thx mc. I think i'll just stay with the ol' 3340 as I am used to and familiar with it. :)

what do you base this on??? i had a 3340 and a friend had the 3440... we couldn't find a sonic difference at that time...

Sorry, I read this too fast. I had a 3340 and a 40-4 (not a 3440!). The 40-4 is a better sounding machine than the 3340 and is miles ahead in design.

With the exception of heads, guides and # of channels, the 40-4 is the same as the 80-8.

Yup. I owned that one too! Great machine with some awfully funky relay design. I like the Fostex E16 much better. I have two and they both are from 1987-88. Both are in great condition and outlasted both the 40-4 and the 80-8. Still, the 40 and 80s were great machines.
